A former childcare worker has pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old boy after he groomed him using Facebook.
The incident occurred in September 2014, when Cameron Michael Stinear was 19 years old. Mr Stinear was on bail for child pornography charges at the time.
Mr Stinear, now 22, is now on trial for the incident, and has changed his plea to guilty for unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 14.
The District Court heard Mr Stinear engaged in “deliberate, calculated, grooming and normalising behaviour” through sexual and graphic messages with the boy on Facebook.
When Mr Stinear and the 13-year-old boy met later in person, Mr Stinear performed a sex act on him in his car.
The boy’s mother found the messages sent between Mr Stinear and her son and contacted police.
Mr Stinear has admitted to a host of other charges, including communicating with the intention of making a child amenable to sexual activity.
He also faces two counts of possessing child pornography.
Further sentencing submissions will be heard in May, when Mr Stinear will return to court.
