A popular topic today is the news that thousands of childcare workers across Australia will walk off the job at 3.20pm.
The time they say they start working for free because of low wages.
The national action today is expected to be the biggest sector walk-off in Australian history, and is the second this year after a protest in March failed to influence the federal budget.
United Voice assistant national secretary Helen Gibbons said early childhood educators earned $21 per hour despite required qualifications to work in the sector.
“Prime minister, love does not pay the bills, it does not pay your mortgage or your energy bills,” she said.
“Early childhood educators are growing increasingly frustrated and angry about the lack of action from the government on funding the professional pay that this highly qualified and skilled sector deserves.”
It is expected more than 3000 workers will walk off the job nationwide.
The workers want the Fair Work Commission to agree to a 35 percent pay increase.
Has the walk out impacted on your day today?
