Kelly Rowland is best known as a former member of Destiny’s Child with Beyoncé, and since then has had her own musical career as well.

But now she’s focused on her next chapter: welcoming her new son in the coming weeks with husband Tim Witherspoon.

“I’m excited to bring a child into the world, and sharing that experience with my husband is probably the most beautiful part,” she says in a new interview in Elle.

Throughout her pregnancy, the 33-year-old has kept an eye on her fitness: “Everybody always tells you to go crazy with food, and you can eat whatever you want. It’s fine to have your cravings, but I wanted an easier delivery,” she says.

“All the women that I’ve talked to, that have worked out, have such an easy and speedy delivery. Exercise really helps that.”

The singer has been doing yoga, cardio and light weight training.

“To be honest, I did modify my exercise routine a bit by just listening to my body. I would tell my trainer, ‘This move doesn’t feel right,’ and we’d modify it,” she says. “I still walk two miles every day. I still work out. It’s important to me.”

But it hasn’t been all work, no fun. Occasionally indulging in chocolate ice cream with peanut butter (yum), cherry pie and nachos, she’s kept up her workouts partly because “I like being able to have peaceful sleep at night, though there’s no such thing as that now in the last trimester.”

Although he’s only weeks away, she’s aiming to help her little one fit into her routine.

She is about to head back into the studio to record, and expects that sometimes he might even make it along to an awards event.

“Everybody has their normal and sometimes award shows are a part of that,” she says. “I have girlfriends who have that experience and they’ll say, ‘You know, I just really didn’t want to be without my child today.’ And it’s just that simple.”

How did having a baby change your life? Were you able to keep certain parts of your old routine going or did it all fly out the window? We’d love to hear!

  • I think the first child is the hardest to adjust to as it’s your first but I was able to get out and about a lot and was not real restrited but the second one there’s no chance at getting 2 to comply to a schedule you want.

  • Having a baby changes everything. You loose friends as you aren’t so “flexible” but the again you realise what’s important to you & wonder what did you ever do to fill in the hours before they were born.

  • I found most well thought out plans regarding birth and children DON”T HAPPEN in real life.

    • Yes I would tend to agree with that. You can plan all you like, but real life throws you curve balls.

  • A baby definitely changes your routine and life in some way or the other.
