If you’re drowning in a sea of hair bows that seem to be multiplying in your kiddo’s room, we’re coming in strong with simple DIY to get those ribbons rounded up tout suite.

Supremely clever and crafty mums have been whipping up simple DIY hair bow holders, or bow drops for under $10, using items from Kmart.

Casey shared her creation in the Kmart Home & Decor Hacks Australia group, after being inspired by another mum. “I have been wanting a bow holder for ages but never found something I absolutely loved and suited the room decor.

How to make a bow holder

“I decided to make two holders, because we all know the collection is going to grow! And I went with tiered lengths as I wouldn’t have been able to cope with even lengths being uneven. I also used the pink macrame cord to match the bedroom rather than the natural cord. All up for 2 bow holders – $18.”

If you’re keen to make your own bow holder, here’s what you need:

Thread the beads through a doubled up length of cord and then attach each length to the rainbow. Easy Peasy!

Casey has a tip for anyone making their own bow drop: “The macrame cord frays really easy and is difficult to get through the holes in the wooden beads. By the second holder I figured out the best technique. Put two ends of the rope together and wrap in sticky tape to bind the ends together. Feed it through the bead and then cut the sticky tape off. Give yourself extra rope length to play with!”

How do you store hair bows at your place?

  • This is so cute, clever and fantastic. And it could also be used to hang my necklaces.

  • How very clever! All our bows and other hair accessories are in a bag on the back of the bathroom door…though it is ripped so may not last too much longer and I could be looking for another idea!

  • We never had hair bows. Never really had much hair stuff at all. My daughter was no nonsense, a quick brush and into a ponytail. She was always too busy to let me fuss around with her hair, get in and get it over with was her motto

For me it’s headbands. I just used a flower shaped hanger I got from Daiso to hang them all up.
I have bows as well which I keep in a little clear bag so they’re easy to grab and chuck back in.
