Facebook looks a little bit different this morning.

Did you notice that overnight the social media giant has rolled out their new “Reactions.”?

Users now have the option of choosing from a collection of emojis called “Reactions” to respond to each post, the symbols represent expressions of love, laughter, surprise, sadness and anger.

“Our community has been asking for a dislike button for years” Mark Zuckerberg wrote on Facebook today.

“Today is our worldwide launch of Reactions — the new Like button with more ways to express yourself.

Not every moment you want to share is happy. Sometimes you want to share something sad or frustrating. Our community has been asking for a dislike button for years, but not because people want to tell friends they don’t like their posts. People wanted to express empathy and make it comfortable to share a wider range of emotions.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the right way to do this with our team. One of my goals was to make it as simple as pressing and holding the Like button.

The result is Reactions, which allow you to express love, laughter, surprise, sadness or anger.

Love is the most popular reaction so far, which feels about right to me!”

I am liking them!!  Although it only seems to be working on some pages at the moment. I am guessing I need an update.

The trick – you can either hover over the “like” option and the extra emoji’s will pop up, or press and hold the “like” button and the other options will pop up.

  • I used my first Reaction this morning! I’d seen a few posts with these new symbols without realising how to access them first. Facebook is ever evolving.

  • I think they are great. Sometimes people post things that are very sad and you dont want to go in and “like” their sad post about their Dog dying….very cool that now there is a range of emotions.

  • I noticed the like icon had changed on my phone, and it said something about holding down for reactions but I hadn’t bothered yet. Now I know why!

  • I saw these this morning and it makes more sense than just simple like, now if someone has a post that “like” just seems cruel, we can select sad etc. Love it!

  • And people are still complaining on facebook that they want a “dislike” button.
Like any changes facebook makes some will like it, some will hate it but everyone will end up just dealing with it.
