FATHER charged after his wife died in a fire which tore through the family’s home where the couple’s two children had been asleep.

Abdul Barati, 43, and the his two sons, aged 9 and 6, escaped serious injury when their Guildford home caught fire in the early hours of Tuesday, October 18. His wife and mother of the boys, 30-year-old Adel Barati, did not make it out.

A 43-year-old man was taken to Merrylands Police Station for questioning, where he has since been charged. The boys were being cared for by family members.

He was refused bail. The father did not enter a plea or apply for bail and will remain in custody until he faces Campbelltown Local Court on December 14, reports 9 news.

Reports claim that neighbours allegedly heard a woman’s screams as the fire ripped through the home. But when firefighters arrived at the Clement Street St house, there was nothing they could do to save Ms Barati.

The couple are believed to be duel Afghan-Australian citizens.

  • This sort of thing is just so sad. No one marries someone thinking that one day that person will most likely kill them. Why this man couldnt just walk away instead is just very sad.

  • A mongrel is too good a name for him.
The meaning of mongrel is a cross breed dog (or originally was)
What I would like to call him isn’t printable.

  • What a horrific way to die. Her poor children would have heard her terrifying screams and possibly scarred for life. I hope that whoever is looking after them will help them through this ordeal.

  • Seriously, if he wasn’t happy with his wife, what wrong with divorce people?! Those little boys will now grow up without a mum or dad

  • 🙁 Poor woman. I am glad the boys made it. But what a difficult life awaits them, without a mother, and a father in prison for this horrible crime! 🙁
