Grandma returns newborn grandson back to the clinic where he was born because she thought he was too ugly to be her relative.

The unnamed woman accused staff at the clinic in the city of Santa Marta, in the northern Colombian department of Magdalena, of swapping the baby. She returned with the newborn and his mother, shared Daily Mail.

She demanded that staff swap the child back, but they told her that he had been the only baby boy delivered at the clinic on the day he was born, and there had been no mix-up.

Carlos Pallares, health secretary on Santa Marta’ city council, said: ‘The grandmother was not very happy.

‘She did not identify the baby as a new member of the family and therefore she decided to come back to the clinic along with the mother of the baby to return him.

‘The situation should be accepted. Sometimes biology, genetics play a role in these mistakes and we should accept them.’

He added that the women eventually took the baby home after staff at the clinic had checked him over.

The boy was deemed to be in good health, and is now with his family, the Mirror reports.

City council spokesman Chadan Rosado said that the grandmother was undergoing psychological treatment, and urged people not to be too quick to judge her.

It was not clear exactly why the grandmother thought the baby was ugly.

  • Well, that’s a sad story for the baby to hear when he’s older.

  • When I FIRST SAW THIS THIS I immediately thought that grandma had a mental issue.

  • How bizarre – there has to be more to this story – possible psychological illness? Regardless of appearance a child should be loved as appearance is superficial.
Ugly is this kind of act and not looks.

  • I wonder if the Mum currently has Post Natal Depression and simply went along with the Grandma.
Perhaps she risked hurting the baby if she physically tried to take the baby from the Grandma. We don’t have all the full details. I wish MOM would get ALL the facts before they release articles. The article states that the Grandma is currently undergoing physological treatment.

  • Aw bless, that’s not the best start for the boy ! Hope he’ll never be made aware of this start and by the time he understands a bit more his grandmother has found her balance back and sees the beauty in her grandson !

  • If this wasn’t true it would be laughable. That poor child. The mother and grandmother don’t deserve him, poor little love. Praying for you little man.

  • What UGLY behaviour. That poor child. I hope the Grandmother doesn’t continue to inflict her thoughts and prejudices on this child, affecting the way they see themselves as they grow. What a horrible thing to do.

  • It is the grandmother who is ugly, not the child.

  • Do hope Grandma gets the help she needs and the baby never learns of this or if he does, he learns about it in a funny way and doesn’t blame himself.

  • With everything we put on the web being ‘out there’ forever for anyone to see I truly hope that this little boy never grows up to find what his grandma did. Children change as they grow but this little one has already been judged by a really lightweight world view based entirely on physical looks. It certainly says a lot more about the adult’s “ugliness” than any the child is perceived to have. So sad that grandma seems to be very unwell.

  • Hopefully the child never hears about this incident and just because a baby is beautiful does not mean that they wont grow up to be gorgeous adults. There are a lot of famous beautiful people who have some really bad baby photos.

  • that poor mum, for her mother not to accept her baby! I’m not even going to comment about the grandmother, it could be dementia, it could be cultural and she could just be a horrible woman!

  • wow how horrible for the mother, hopefully grandmother is ok

  • I am shocked! I only gave one grandchild but to me he is the most beautiful baby in the world!

  • oh boy, sounds like dementia to me…
