The NSW father, 59, who cannot be identified, started abusing his daughter when she was five years old and it continued until she was 19, Judge Sarah Huggett told Sydney’s District Court during a sentence hearing on Thursday, reports 9 news.
The court heard the 73 charges related to years of sexual torture and abuse.
The abuse would often occur in a dilapidated shed on the family’s rural property. Where the girl’s wrists were tied with rope and often also restrained by barbed-wire.
She was often left in pain in the shed overnight, the court heard.
The court heard the girl had been raped with sharp metal tools and had buried them in an attempt to stop her father.
Judge Huggett described how the man “took tangled barbed wire with loops on the end and nailed it around her”, “locked her in a box overnight”, “held a chainsaw to her neck”, “held her head under water” and “put her on an ants nest”.
The court heard that the man fashioned a number of crude implements to penetrate and cut his daughter.
Judge Huggett said the girl was often in “excruciating pain” and once a wrote out a desperate message “in her own blood”.
The judge said the offences took place while the daughter was training at elite sporting events around Australia.
“If she did not perform a personal best [she] would be taken to the shed when they got home,” she said.
When the father was worried she might tell someone, he threatened to kill her. “I own you,” he said to his daughter, Judge Huggett said.
The court heard he told his victim’s siblings she was staying with a friend when she was absent from the family home.
While locked in the shed the girl had scratched “trapped” and “dad” into its wooden frame, the court heard.
Once, when he suspected she was pregnant, the father made her drop medicine balls on her stomach as a training exercise.
The girl’s mother is also being sentenced over 13 counts of sexual abuse. “The mother told the victim it is better to make noises during sexual intercourse, with her father saying ‘It would make it better for you and Dad’,” Judge Huggett said.
The hearing continues.
This makes our blood boil. How could anyone do such treacherous things to a child?
