Hilary Duff revealed she drank a placenta smoothie after welcoming her second child, Banks Violet Bair, last month and did something quite unusual with the leftovers.

In an interview with US podcast Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy, the actress revealed: “I haven’t had a smoothie that delightful since I was like 10-years-old.”

According to the mum-of-two, it was calorie-packed made with “juice and fruit and everything delicious.”

She has since made the leftover placenta into ice cubes that she can have as “treats” in other smoothies she makes.

Yet despite her enthusiasm, she admits she didn’t wish to have it made into tablets.

“I heard something weird about pills,” she added. “I heard placenta burps are not ideal.”

  • It sounds as gory as diluting your own blood and mixing it with milk would be. Yuck !!!

  • If I were to do anything with my placenta, it would be to bury it and plant a tree. Wouldn’t even consider consuming it.

  • Oh dear. I’m glad I don’t go to her house and be offered a drink.

  • Different. But a celebrity doing this brings exposure to the benefits of it.

  • I honestly couldn’t think of anything worse – a big fat no from me I am afraid but I don’t judge what she did at all – I have heard lots of mum’s doing it and I always say each to their own

  • Do think I’ll pass on this delicacy. Don’t know what the hospitals did in the old days – one never thought or talked about it.

  • I know animals do it and it’s full of nutrients but I really cannot even stomach the thought of eating it. I cast no judgement on those that do consume the placenta, I hope it gives your baby a great head start.
