Rebel Wilson, the Aussie actress and now Hollywood star, who has traditionally played ‘fat girl’ roles with gusto and (often crude) humour, is celebrating reaching her goal weight.
She has recently revealed the secrets to her newly slimmed-down physique in a Live Q&A with her fans on Instagram.
However, she said that initially, she didn’t feel like she had support from the movie world.
‘Fat-Amy’ Is Gone!
“Industry-wise, there were a lot of people who wanted me to stay as Fat Amy,” Wilson said, referring to the character she played in Pitch Perfect.
“And at the end of the day it is my life and my body and Hollywood had in a way typecast me but I didn’t want to stay like that.
“It makes me sad sometimes that I didn’t value myself enough before all of this to get healthy.”
Goal Weight!
Wilson has dubbed 2020 as the “year of health” as she shares the ups and downs of her weight-loss journey and finally reaching her goal weight of 75kg.
“I can only talk about my own personal experience/journey but am hoping to help those who have had similar struggles to me,” she wrote on Instagram.
Eggs On Ice
The overwhelming trigger to her dramatic lifestyle shift was turning 40.
“I’ve probably been overweight probably since I was about 20. This year I turn 40, so probably 20 years.”
This made her think about her health, and particularly her fertility.
She also made the decision to freeze her eggs.
“As all career women would know if that is something that interests you approaching 40 is a good time to do it,” she said.
“I was thinking about fertility and having good quality eggs in the bank, so I was like – OK, I’m going to do this. I’m going to get healthy.”
Emotional Eating
Wilson shared that the biggest change was emotional.
Realising “why I was overeating, why I was emotionally eating and trying to solve that, that was the biggest lesson,” the actress said.
“I would wear my weight as a bit of a barrier, so people wouldn’t get close to me,” she admitted.
“I wasn’t valuing myself, and telling myself negative things. That was hard. I’m trying to change those patterns, so you’re more loving and treating yourself with respect. “I’m working on self love, and that’s a hard concept to master.”
Sweet Tooth
Her eating plan started with a detox to help her to cut down sugar. “I have the biggest sweet tooth. It is my weakness,” the star revealed.
Exercise Tips
She also introduced more exercise into her lifestyle.
She said one of her best tips is to just “get out and walk”.
“That is free, you can do it, it’s safe and walking is the best way for me to metabolise fat,” Wilson said.
The actress also recommends weight training to help getting fit.
“Ladies, don’t be afraid of weights. I love that feeling of feeling strong and powerful,” she said.
What’s Next?
It sounds like the star isn’t keen on getting super skinny and says she feels “really confident now”.
“The main reason I decided to share my journey on social media is for accountability. Thanks everyone for their support,” Wilson said.
