Squeaky doors are a staple of horror movies. Hearing a door somewhere in the house squeak open in the middle of the night is something that no one wants to hear. So here is how to fix that squeaky door hinge in just a few minutes!
First, you need to identify the problem that is causing your door to squeak. So, open the door fully, and slowly move it back and forwards. Listen for when you hear the squeak and isolate where the sound is coming from.
- If the problem lies in one of your hinges making a sound, then count yourself lucky, as this is a SUPER easy fix! What you’ll want to do is grab some WD-40, or your choice of lubricant (you can even use butter!) and get ready to coat that whiny hinge. Be sure to place some old rags on the floor to catch the droplets of lubricant that may fall down. Thoroughly coat the part of the hinge that is squeaking with the lubricant. When you are lubricating, you should move the door back and forwards in order to coat all areas of the hinge. Now wait a few minutes, and voila, your squeaky hinge is fixed!
- Another problem you may encounter is dust or other foreign objects inside the hinge. If this is the case, you can use a vacuum cleaner to remove the small object. Then follow step one and thoroughly lubricate the hinge.
- If your door is squeaking due to the door coming into contact with the frame, then you have a few options. What you can do is check each hinge and see if they have been bent. If this is the case, you can try re-bending the hinge by pushing against the door and bending the hinge so that the door is parallel to the frame. If this isn’t possible, then you may have to remove the door and hinges using a screwdriver and replacing them, this should fix your slanting door problem!
