When my father became very ill last year and decisions had to be made about his palliative care it was a huge relief to refer to his advanced care directive. All his wishes were in writing, nobody had to take on the huge responsibility of deciding what treatments he should receive.
My husband’s family were in the same situation a little while later without a directive and there was a lit if division amongst the family as to what care and treatment was appropriate. It made a difficult time much more distressing for everyone.
