I saw this last night and to be honest, it must be the universe validating the way I’m parenting at the moment.

One of my children (the first one to hit teenager-hood) told me we were into “hardline” parenting.  We told him we were simply parenting!

Love that this mum validated the exact same conversation. Seems people all over the World loved it too – this video has gone viral and has had over 35 million views!

Check it out here:

Love her approach. Love her attitude (and would love that tub of ice cream)!

What’s your approach to parenting?

Are you the “I’m not your friend kid. My job is to raise you well because I love you” or do you have a different perspective?

  • This is 100% correct. You love your kid so you can be forgiving but the World doesnt love your kid and once they get out into the big wide world they will ahve a super tough time if they think everything is going to go their way all the time.

  • I dunno, I think you can be a friend and a parent too. I had limited issues with my kids by parenting this way

  • I need to show this to my husband, who wants to be their friend instead

  • A great article, I am a grandmother now, but I totally agree with this mother your children have plenty of friends, it is our job to be their parents. Children need boundaries and they may not like it, but I feel they expect it and secretly appreciate it. As my children are adults now they are parenting as I did, not friends just mum.

  • Thanks for your article,l agree with you!

  • I agree. Kids seem rather entitled these days and this video is a good reminder that parenting is tough and kids don’t often like it. I love how honest and upfront she is too!

  • I love this! My 2.5 year old runs our house, it is time that I start being his mum rather than giving in to him to make life easier.

  • Thank you so much for posting this!
I did see it on Facebook and then could never find it again to share with my friends.
I am the ‘bad cop’ parent as I am separated from my son’s father and it’s hard at times to not feel like I should succumb to just being the ‘nice one’.
    I love this woman!

  • I agree with this way!!

  • Wise words, thank you for sharing.

  • My sons were mostly like this when they were younger. They have turned into caring and loving men. Wish I’d known about that ice-cream then though. Would have helped me a lot I’m thinking

  • my 22 year old thanked me for making him do things he didn’t want to in his teenage years and said that he doesn’t know what his life would have been like if I hadn’t. Such validation that the hard times when he didn’t like me at all were all worth it.

  • Ditto! I so love this. This is my house at the moment. And I’m sure Coles has some icecream on sale so I’m heading there now!!

  • That is absolutely correct, I love this! I remember my daughter getting angry at me one day and she said, “stop being a mom!” Well I took that as a compliment!

  • I have seen this before and I agree
