It’s only been days since McDonald’s launched adult-sized Happy Meals with special collectibles, but the re-sellers are already on the prowl.

After first launching 25 years ago, Macca’s has brought back McNugget Buddies, and this time they come with their own trading cards.

Since 14th February customers have been able to collect six different McNugget Buddies as part of the new, adult-sized Kerwin Frost Happy Meal Box. The box offers a choice between 10-piece Chicken McNuggets or a a Big Mac, as well as fries, a drink and a McNugget Buddy.

But while McDonald’s hasn’t confirmed there are any ‘rare’ McNugget Buddies, several people have already found golden versions of the chicken nugget toys. And many have already been put up for sale on eBay, with one person asking for $300,000.

Of course, it’s not the first time that collectibles have been listed for extraordinary prices, and recently a limited edition release of Bluey Gnomes at Bunnings created an online bidding frenzy.

McNugget Buddies were first released in Australia in 1998 in Happy Meals, including glow-in-the-dark Buddies. Artist Kerwin Frost says he’s thrilled to have partnered with Macca’s.

“I’ve loved McDonald’s since I was a kid. I even had my own Ronald McDonald doll that I brought to picture day at school, and it was my dream to collect all the McNugget Buddies.

“Now, coming up with my own special set of Buddies – each one representing different aspects of self-expression – it’s unreal, a dream come true. McDonald’s has been a great partner from day one, and they’ve truly allowed me to create without limits. I hope the Kerwin Frost Box will serve as a reminder for people to hone their creativity and not be afraid to show the world who they really are.”

Here’s a little more about each Buddy:

Kerwin Frost: The Mayor is a true champion of the Buddies and encourages them to be themselves. In his free time, catch him adding art to his collection or fixing things around the neighborhood.

Don Bernice: The Wise Stylist, an experienced fashion designer who creates all the outfits for the Buddies, while also offering stern advice (that’s always nice!). After all, she is “don” – the very best!

Uptown Moe: The Neighborhood Hero, the no-nonsense, street-smart, supportive guy from around the block everyone knows and loves. He also gives the best motivational speeches on a whim.

Waffutu: The Curious Optimist was raised by the whole neighborhood. She spreads positivity wherever she goes and can turn any frown upside down with the wave of a wand and tilt of a crown.

BRRRICK: The Cool Guy, the most adventurous Buddy who speaks in puns, loves trying new things and techno music. He’s lowkey nervous, but always cool under pressure.

Darla: The Dreamer, a soft-spoken yet peacefully confident singer who is pursuing her dream of becoming a superstar as the lead singer of “The Frostettos.” When she’s not on stage, she’s running her local Macca’s – where she’s employee of the month every month!

  • Don’t even remember them!

  • I have never understood the way people act over ‘collectibles’. Most of them just end up in the rubbish bin anyway. To me it is a sort of ‘get rich quick’ idea, and they are just wasted dreams.

  • How ridiculous!!! The same happened with the bluey ornaments

  • I notice there weren’t any bids placed yet…

  • I think some people go a bit crazy over these things

    Reply

  • I can’t believe anyone would pay an exorbitant amount of money for a gold one. I’ve never heard of them before and there were no stores that I could go to anyway.

    Reply

  • Crazy if someone would actually pay that sort of money!

    Reply

  • They can ask what they want, however What’s crazy is if someone actually pays that much.

    Reply

  • Amazing the value people place on certain things.

    Reply

  • No, I don’t. And I’m sorry, but I just don’t get it!!

    Reply

  • That is definitely insane for a maccas toy!

    Reply

  • I definitely don’t have one. I don’t go to McDonald’s.

    Reply

  • Honestly if someone has the money to pay that and they choose to, good luck to them. I know I wouldn’t but each to their own..

    Reply

  • How ridiculous. I don’t even know why anyone wants any of these!

    Reply

  • That’s ridiculous! You’d want to make sure it’s legitimate but even then do you think anyone would pay for it?!
