Identical twins born as females have come out as transgender despite growing up in a conservative Christian family.
Jaclyn and Jennifer Grafe were born in June 1995 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA but the 23 year old siblings are now known as Jack and Jace to reflect their transition from identical twin girls to identical twin boys. Growing up in a conservative Christian family, the twins even kept their gender identity a secret from each other until they came out as transgender when they were 18 years old.
Going Through This Together
The twins, who now live in Monroe, Georgia began taking testosterone in mid-2017 to allow them to grow facial hair, and underwent major chest surgery in August this year, unilad.co.uk reports.
Jack said, “Our parents had never seen anything like it. They have never experienced gay or transgender people and my Dad is a pastor.” Jace added, “Being a twin means I don’t feel alone. Somebody else is experiencing the exact same thing as I am going through and that made me stronger.”
Becoming Who They Really Are
In September last year Jack and Jace both had their official gender recognised as male, and are now permitted to change the gender marker on their drivers licence. Both are in happy relationships with women and are criminal justice graduates working in law enforcement. They hope that their story will inspire others to be who they really are. “I am the happiest with myself that I have been in my entire life. That uncomfortable feeling we had before is completely gone.”
It takes a great deal of courage to be your true self and we think these twins have courage in bucketloads.
