Hello!

If ever there was a feat of ingenuity, it has to be this Kmart bread bin side table hack.

DIY enthusiast Kristine Ham has crafted the most on-trend piece of furniture using little more than two $19 Kmart bread bins – and she’s shared her step-by-step instructions on how to make one (or two) for your home!

Kristine, who shares her home decor finds and hacks on her Instagram account extra.ordinary.home, describes herself as a ‘habitually lazy organising enthusiast, failed minimalist, crafter, DIYer, decorator, colour lover and thriving maximalist’.

And the gloriously irreverent DIYer doesn’t take herself too seriously. Which is why when she decided to make a side table out of bread bins, she wasn’t sure anyone would like it.

“Have I officially lost it?,” she mused. “In short, yes. But also, I made a little side table using…. Bread bins. Again, why am I like this?”

She then details how she crafted the side table, as well as sharing a video on the process.

“Here’s how it went down … I got two bread bins from @kmartaus and stuck them together using glue and nails I acquired somewhere along the line from @bunnings. Following this I fashioned some timber legs using offcuts and stained them using @feast_watson Prooftint in ‘Oak’. I attached the legs with screws and then painted the rest with @porterspaints Eggshell Finish in ‘Wet Cement’.

“Have I gone too far? Actually, don’t answer that. Just behold my latest bizarre piece of furniture that was crafted by things that were absolutely NOT meant to be furniture. I’m not sure if this is even a hashtag yet but #breadbinhack.”

We have to say that this hack turned out to be a beauty – we’re here for a cheap and cheerful transformation!

  • A very retro look and probably a fraction of the price of a bought bedside table!

  • Has she gone too far in innovative furniture? No.
Has she gone too far using youth speak?
    Yes.
Aside from that, unless you add a shelf in the middle you would need large objects to make sure they do not fall out.
