A 20-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a baby boy in his care.
The 18-month-old boy was found by his mother when she returned to the Bankstown unit in Sydney’s southwest shortly after 11pm Saturday.
Neighbours rushed to the home when they heard the woman’s screams.
The boy was taken to Bankstown Hospital before he was transferred to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.
9NEWS reported the baby suffered a fractured skull, bruising and cuts, two burst ear drums and a possible dislocated spine.
The 20-year-old has since been charged with four counts of cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He has been refused bail and will appear at Bankstown Local Court today.
