Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach crowned as Miss Universe wrote on Instagram:

“And to all the fans who are still fighting about this…Please let’s all stop now. The Miss Universe Organization is about uniting empowered women from all over the world.” she said, “Arguing and sending hateful messages to each other defeats the whole purpose. You believe in the message of Miss Universe and so do I.”

Pia also spoke of Miss Colombia saying:

Fate has a plan for you, and I’m excited to see what’s ahead.”

For the first time, Pia also wrote in depth of how much the win meant to her personally and her country:

“Words can’t describe how grateful I am for this. It was quite a journey getting here with 3 attempts at winning Miss Philippines. Now, I finally got the best Christmas gift ever – and not just for me, for my country.” She continued, “I’d like to say thank you to everyone who believed in my potential and those who supported me from the beginning. To everyone who voted for me, especially to my fellow countrymen, thank you.”

  • I think they should have been declared joint winners – that was incredibly heartbreaking, but boy she handled it like a superstar xxx

  • Yes that was a massive stuff up. I felt sorry for the woman who actually didn’t win.

  • Wow! Awkward for everybody.

  • what a horrible mistake this was, the way it handled was not much better either

  • What an embarrassing mistake to make. Poor Columbia : (

  • i think that the situation was unique! a moment like that really did call for grace and tact. i feel sorry for all those other girls who entered! but there can only be one.

  • That’s a graceful way of dealing with it.

  • Lke ju

  • I’m sure her comments will help everyone move on from the mix-up.

  • What a very pleasant woman she is – The process must have been extremely embarrassing, but she has risen above it.

  • I’m glad that she had publicly addressed the mix up. It’s great to see the brains and heart behind the beauty.

  • It is hard to imagine what else she could say – having watched the footage a few times, it was so horrible for the 2 women affected. I can’t image how awful the runner up must be feeling.

    • I agree – awkward for both of them and the shine was taken off the win.

  • Thank you for posting this. I only heard about it briefly. Now what I heard makes sense

  • What an embarrassing situation, really. It was a mistake but it must have hurt for sure.
