Former AFLW star Moana Hope has welcomed her second bundle of joy with wife Isabella Carlstrom, a little baby boy.
The couple shared moving images and photos over the weekend as Moana went into labour, showing their daughter Svea and Isabella providing birth support. And this afternoon they revealed they’ve added a baby boy to their family, named Ahi Joseph Carlstrom.
“We are proud parents of this beautiful little baby boy. His name is Ahi Joseph Carlstrom 24.6. Coming in at almost 4kg’s, we endured 24 hours of labour that was the hardest and most challenging thing I’ve ever done in my life both physically and emotionally. It brought us to the most beautiful little boy. You my little guy are perfect and your Mums love you.’
Isabella praised her wife for her strength during her arduous birth.
“Moana Hope you are incredible, I’m so unbelievably proud of you. You went to hell and back to get our beautiful boy safely to us. I don’t have words to describe what it feels like to share this experience with you and understand each other on such a deep level. You’re so strong and I love you very much. You’re such a natural and Svea and Ahi are so lucky to have you as their Mum. Ahi, we all love you so much everything and shines a little brighter now that you’re earth side.”
Moana and Isabella welcomed their first baby, daughter Svea Hope Carlstrom in November 2020, with Isabella undergoing IVF.
Monash IVF joined in the chorus of congratulations for the couple.
“It’s been our privilege at Monash IVF to guide and support Moana and her wife Isabella through their fertility journeys, including helping them choose a suitable sperm donor for them, to help them fulfil their family dreams,” said Moana’s fertility specialist Dr Gareth Weston.
“To see them now with their two beautiful children is so heart-warming. We know how important it was for Mo and Bella to use the same donor to conceive their children and would encourage other eligible men to think about donating to help more people conceive, including same sex couples, single women and couples having trouble conceiving.
“We will continue to work with the Victorian Government to ensure any discriminatory aspects of the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act and gendered language is considered and rectified at each stage of the review process.”
Mo and Bella made no secret of their plans to add to their gorgeous family, with Moana revealing she had planned to undergo IVF in 2021. The couple then announced the pregnancy in December last year.
“I’m pregnant… we’re pregnant,” Moana wrote on her Instagram account. “2022 our little modern family will grow by one tiny human. Building our own little football team.
“We are using the same donor as Svea and we are all beyond excited. Not even the morning sickness can damper this mood. Thank you for making this possible @monashivf.”
Isabelle joining in on the announcement on her account, writing, “My beautiful wife is pregnant! It’s so exciting to share this journey with you @moanahope Here we go folks round 2!”
Moana and Isabella’s ‘modern family’ includes Moana’s sister Lavinia (Vinny), who has a rare neurological condition called Moebius syndrome. At just 26-years-old Moana became Vinny’s sole carer.
