Popular children’s YouTube star Ms. Rachel has revealed that she puts her son to bed in his school uniform, prompting claims she’s a ‘lazy’ parent.

Rachel Griffin Accurso, known as Ms. Rachel, rose to fame with her children’s YouTube music series Songs for Littles, where she boasts 6.32 million subscribers. She’s loved by millions of children and parents across the world for her dedication to language development in children through her music.

However, her latest social media video has raised a few eyebrows, with the 42-year-old admitting she puts her son to bed in his school clothes.

“I dress my little boy for school at night,” she explained on Instagram. “We put on a nice new shirt, sweatpants, super comfy, great for jammies, and then when he wakes up we just throw on sneakers.

“Someday I’ll teach him to wake up for school and get dressed,” she continued. “And that will be a very good thing to teach. But I can’t do that right now. And that’s ok. I’m doing my best. And so are you, and I love you.”

The video attracted hundreds comments ridiculing Ms. Rachel’s candid confession.

“Explains why there were smelly kids in school. Clothes can literally harbour your smell. And after wearing them though 8 hours of sleeping, then a 12-hour day….. just imagine! You won’t smell it, but others have to.”

“This is just lazy parenting.”

“In the night kids sweat. Plus it literally takes five minutes to get dressed in the morning.”

“Let me get my head around this…. My 2 year old goes to sleep by 8pm wakes up 7/7:30am. Back from nursery at 4pm…. Dinner etc. That makes him in the same clothes for more than 20hours… hmmmmm I like ms Rachel but on this each to their own.”

However the post also attracted plenty of supportive comments from parents who can relate to Ms. Rachel’s routine.

“I am a paediatric OT and I love this so much!!!! I make this recommendation to families all the time.”

“Choosing not to take on a battle at the moment and instead deferring to a time when both you and child are better able to handle it? Genius. Showing yourself compassion until the time comes? Essential.”

  • This makes me feel better about myself! So many times we see Facebook and Instagram posts where the house looks perfect, the kids are immaculate and the parents are immaculate. We don’t know what shortcuts they take, or whether they have a housekeeper they hide away when the camera is not rolling. And it always leaves me feeling inadequate and like I’m failing. It’s important to remember that what we see in posts and reels isn’t what is really happening. Whilst I commend her for being honest about her shortcut, this wouldn’t be one I’d take, unless she was having to get him up at the crack of dawn. Unfortunately when you start kids with a « bad habit » it becomes hard for them to break.

  • Little odd, but if it helps their morning routine then it can’t be a bad thing.

  • Each to his own. If nothing else works and this does, then this is what happens.

  • Who are we to judge anyone.

  • I have no problem with the idea of doing this occasionally, but I’m a bit doubtful about it as a regular thing.

  • Lazy? Far from. I know children that have gone to bed in their school uniform just to get them to school.
Don’t judge others if U haven’t been in their shoes

  • We don’t always know what people are going through so we shouldn’t judge what they do to make there life a bit easier.????

  • Never heard of this before but if it works for you do it. I myself like the routine of shower/bath, pyjamas then bed. Clean uniform in the morning. I like being clean and fresh when I go out the door in the morning and I’m sure my kids do too.

  • I have never done this, and I don’t think it should be done regularly. Once in a while? Maybe.

  • It is setting up bad habits for later in life in my opinion.

  • I’ve never done this. Wouldn’t the school uniform be very creased? And uncomfortable? We would just have it ready from the night before to put on quickly and easily in the morning.

    • I agree; prepare clothes the night before and have them ready for the morning routine.

  • I have never heard of this before reading this article. We all love the ritual and routine of a warm shower or bath before getting in to cosy PJs for a restful sleep time. This routine brings closure to the day.
