A mum has stunned the internet with an amazing underwater birth at one of the world’s most iconic tourist destinations.

The images shared on social media show the incredible moment a newborn baby was carried from the Red Sea in Egypt after a Russian tourist travelled to the resort town in order to give birth in the water.

Hadia Hosny El Said captured these images from the balcony of her uncle’s apartment in Dahab, north of Sharm el-Sheikh, showing the new father emerging from the ocean helping to carry his newborn.

Moments later the mother also emerged from the sea looking as if she had just been for a swim, before being reunited with her child on the beach.

Hadia said the older man carrying the baby is a doctor specialising in water births, meaning the delivery was arranged ahead of time.

Since Hadia posted the pictures on Facebook on Saturday they have gone viral, being shared more than 2,000 times and attracting thousands of comments.

After the birth the placenta was placed into a bowl before the baby was carried from the water with the umbilical cord still attached.

  • Ah I see from below that she didnt actually give birth in the sea at all and the baby was a few days old when these photos were taken. Perhaps the article nees to be updated with the correct info.

  • I’ve just read this article where the father of the baby says the child was born a couple of days before these pictures were taken. The baby was not born in the sea. They went into the sea to bathe the child. The placenta and umbilical cord were still attached because it seems to have some health benefits. https://www.providr.com/water-birth/?utm_source=BC13&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=providr

    • Oh, that makes the story a bit different. Still an interesting read. I love water births.

  • Congrats to the parents for a safe delivery. My thoughts would be how dangerous this could be, all the toxins in the water (stuff from drains, effluent, even the fish poo) Pretty amazing though.

    • More like the pollution from ships, oil spill and microplastics.

  • Wow. She’s one tough mum. I’d have drowned about 2 minutes in.

  • Erm. Even with medical assistance Im not sure that was safe.
