Mum shares important rant over latest crazy food trend.
Francine from Additive Free Kids has shared a very important rant about the latest food trend. Rainbow toasties.
Originally a Korean street food, rainbow toasties are making their way around the world and are now being sold in Melbourne, Australia.
“Why does food need to be presented in this way??”, asks Francine. “Is it any wonder that our kids are turning into fussy eaters? Why does a humble cheese toastie need to be brightly coloured with all the colours of the rainbow?!”
She adds, “How do we expect our kids to want to eat the natural colours of the rainbow, fruits and veges when we are competing with this?!”
“This should be prohibited from being sold to children.
“I am unable to find the ingredients to review what is in this cheese. However, it is very hard to get bright colours like that without artificial colouring.
I’m sure there are parents thinking this is fun, its a novelty etc.
Please consider, is it fun when potentially the following symptoms can result from ingesting these colours.
Trouble sleeping / insomnia
The list goes on, every one of these symptoms is NOT fun for your child or you.
“You are your child’s protector and gate keeper, you are responsible for their health. You get to make the decision. You get to educate your child about what is really in their food (we have a resource that can help you with this). Companies know that the pester power is strong.
Parents need to play the LONG GAME.
– look past the pestering
– what is this food going to do to my child in the short term
– what is this food going to do to my child in the long term
– what is this food going to do to my child’s gut health??
“The greatest gift you can give your child is the gift of health and the knowledge to maintain it.
“It is unfortunate that these colours are allowed in our food supply.
“You don’t have to support them though. The great thing is…you get to CHOOSE. You get to VOTE whether you support the use of these ingredients or not. If people don’t buy them they won’t keep making them.
“Parents need to consider…is this coloured toastie worth it if we are playing the LONG GAME?”
When you experience some of the symptoms listed above …it is unlikely that the doctor will make the connection from your symptom to what your child ate (there are some amazing GPs that may but generally speaking they won’t). You will be given prescription for antihistamines, steroid creams, asthma inhalers and preventers.
It doesn’t have to be that way
Our children deserve better.
They deserve to be protected.
They should be given every opportunity to thrive.”
What do you think about these coloured toasties?
