Mum sparks online debate after admitting she didn’t give her 11-day-old son a second thought during day out with her young daughter.

Mother posted on Mumsnet asking if she was ‘weird’ for enjoying a trip to the cinema with friends and her four-year-old daughter, without giving her 11-day-old son a second thought.

She shared: ‘I have a darling daughter who is nearly five, and a darling son who is 11 days old.

‘This morning my daughter and I went to the cinema with friends, so we were out for about 3 hours. My son was at home with husband; he is formula-fed, which I know does make a difference.’

‘I can honestly say I never really thought about them while I was out. It was lovely to spend time with my daughter.

‘Reading Mumsnet about leaving babies, most people seem to say they could barely leave theirs for an hour when they were weeks old. I’m wondering now if it’s weird I was so happy to leave a newborn?’

Some users strongly disapproved of the mother’s actions and criticised her for leaving her baby, but most were supportive and offered their own stories of spending time away from their kids, shared Daily Mail.

Mum added,  “DD (darling daughter) has had an unsettled few weeks and she needed some quality time. I suppose I was thinking about it because it seems so common to not be able to leave newborns, whereas I’m finding it harder to not spend as much time with DD.”

I think this is totally great. The older sibling still need lots of one on one time, and are often left craving attention, so this mum is doing brilliant!

How old was your baby when you first left them with your partner?

  • Maybe the mother was still suffering some post birth stress?

  • I wonder if she has bonded with her newborn at all. Their daughter is probably unsettled becuase she is no longer the centre of attention. She has also had to cope the Mum’s up & down emotions for at least a few weeks. She can be given some one on one time at home while the baby is asleep. There is only one positive to this. She didn’t take the baby to the pictures where he could pick up something that made him sick. He is too young for vaccinations and his immune system isn’t strong enough yet.

  • I guess once you have your second child your not as anxious and know what your husband is capable of. So why not go out and spend time with your first born, it gives them some special time with you!

  • Baby was with Dad, and perfectly safe; I can understand why she wasn’t worried. I find “happy” a little harder to get, though.
