Hello!

A MOTHER faces an anxious wait after stepping on a used hypodermic needle at a Queensland beach.

The woman was at Burleigh Heads beach with her husband and children, who were working as volunteer lifesavers, when she stood on the needle on Sunday afternoon.

She was taken to hospital for blood tests but may not know the results for months.

It is the second needle-related accident in the area in three weeks after a four-year-old girl trod on one at nearby Currumbin beach late last year.

Fingers crossed for good results and that she doesn’t have to wait too long!

  • thesis a horrific situation to be in. poor family. I really hope everything is ok and the police and council work together to stop selfish people leaving their dirty old needles lying around.

  • Fingers crossed for the family! I truly hope nothing bad comes from this for them! Hopefully the situation will create incentive for a local clean-up, and for people to keep their areas clean.

  • Absolutely sickening and scary for anyone that has received a needle stick injury.

  • Oh my ..I pray this woman will be ok and gets the all clear.
This is a terrible thing to happen but sadly it does and will happen from time to time.
The city of Gold Coast has a beach tractor that cleans the sand in the morning and I have personally seen it in use ..it’s great. Many councils could take a leaf out of their book.

  • Unfortunately, I can believe needles get left behind by thoughtless users. So horrible for these innocent victims. Truly hope they are ok.

  • How horrible. Worst nightmare! I remember stopping for a swim almost 20 years ago in Frankston & being petrified that I would be stuck by a syringe. But having lived on the Mornington Peninsula for 15 or so years and visiting all my life – I became a bit more relaxed. But now – again It is a really big problem. I could not imagine how distraught I would be if it was me OR god forbid my child.
My husband, only a few days ago, recalled a story – when he was younger – about a mate who worked as a security guard at a retail store – that when he chased a shoplifter (after they had left the store) he was stabbed with a syringe by the shop lifter – and he had to wait 1 whole anxious month to get the result. I hope (at least) this poor women does not have to wait so long and has not contracted any life altering/threatening illness. Best Wishes.
