A US mum has shared a warning for parents who use mirrors to view their little ones in their car seat.

Amanda DeAngelis was using one of the mirrors that straps to the vehicle’s seat and gives you a view of your baby. She NEVER expected this to happen in a million years.

“Never did it occur to me it would reflect and happen so quickly.”

“This is my baby’s car seat. Smoking,” Amanda says in the Facebook clip. “Because there is a mirror on the back of the seat so I can see her. And I just took her out of the seat and smelled smoke and saw the smoke coming up, and this is caused by the sun’s reflection into the car seat. Thank god I made a two second stop and found this before something happened.”

She uploaded the footage to Facebook with a couple of other photos.

“Only me! This happened today,” the Facebook post reads. “Thank God! I was rushing home and didn’t sit in my seat checking emails and responding to texts like I typically do when Mila is sleeping. I’ve used car seats with mirrors with all my kids — never have I experienced this.”

Amanda says the car seat manufacturer responded to her quickly when she told them about this dangerous product combination. The mirror manufacturer had not yet responded.

Her warning has attracted over 87,000 shares.

OMG I would never have given that a second thought either! How scary.

Do you use a mirror to watch your bubba?

  • I never thought of this happening!

  • I had a mirror when my girl was rear facing. I had it installed correctly and occasionally the angle would be just right and sun would reflect directly into her eyes (through the front windscreen – sunset), but from the side, it was never a problem. If she had it higher and angled properly it would have not been such a problem. But I learnt in primary what happens with the light reflection.

  • So scary!!! I’ve never had such a mirror. It looks very handy but if this is the danger that comes with it, better not to use it.
