We love the ’73 questions’ series from VOGUE Australia and their most recent one featuring Nicole Kidman is a favourite.

The video is shot at Nicole (and Keith’s) 45 hectare rural Australian home.  Yes it looks like a movie set and Nicole doesn’t really look like any of us would when we’re picking up toys, but the house is to die for. From room to room to room, it’s a sprawling country mansion – stunning!

More than that, we love that even though the home looks like it’s been styled for a cover shoot of Vogue, there are still the same things in the background that we’d have …

The plastic kitchen in the corner of the room that doesn’t necessarily match the house (just like me)!
The 'outside' pram and the big plastic car (although ours was The Wiggles car)
The ‘outside’ pram and the big plastic car (although ours was The Wiggles car)

We also see a normal old kettle and possibly some plastic wrap on the bench in the kitchen (admittedly this is the ‘cottage’ kitchen which looks nicer than my normal kitchen but it’s TV and she is a movie star).

As Nicole is picking up a toy from the floor (yeah this looked pretty contrived when she kicks it and then picks it up but we’re happy to concede), we love what she says when asked two questions close to our hearts …

“What’s the best part about being a mum?” to which Nicole answers “Oh, everything … the love, the joy, the purpose”.

YES, I love that.  THE PURPOSE.  She’s nailed it – we do have a true purpose from the moment we become mums don’t we?  Yes we had purpose before but I think until you become a mum, it’s not as clear and it’s not a selfless purpose.

“What the hardest thing about being a mum?”

Her answer surprised me and to be honest, I’d never really thought about this as one of the hardest things. But it’s so true.  Nicole says the hardest thing she feels about being a mum is “knowing she won’t be around forever to look after them”.

There’s 71 other questions in the video – some will make you laugh and others give you an insight into this actress you wouldn’t get anywhere else.

Thanks Vogue – we love this series.

  • For me its always a thrill when I get positive feed back. For instance going to the parent teacher meeting and being told that my kids were a delight to have in the class. That they were friends with everyone and so polite. That always made me feel that i had really done something right.

  • I loved this. I’m a huge fan of Nicole anyway, and it was great to see her on a more personal level. Watching your child develop from a baby, to child, to teen. My son is now a young man and I’m impressed by the person he has become.

  • I agree with Nicole totally – the sadness and heartache I feel when I remember that I will not be around to look after them for their rest of their lives threatens to overwhelm me at times. But I pull myself together and try to make sure that I am giving them as many happy memories of us as a family as I can. Plus I plan on living for another 60 or so years ;)

The best part of being a mum is the new-found depth of love that you acquire once a child is born – not only do you love others more deeply, I think we feel others love for us more as well.

    • Beautiful and heartfelt comments and I agree with you! :)
