What on earth was she thinking? Terrible horrible idea.

What the? This is absolutely stupid. Not fun to dress up representing misery at all.

How humiliated did the boy feel at school? Without reading the article first the top photo reminds of a dog collar and chain. That was horrifying enough. Even the boy’s foot that doesn’t have the chain on it looks as though it has been disfigured. (like a nail in the back of his heel). The Mum is lucky she hasn’t had a visit from the relevant Govt. authorities. Pshyological abuse if nothing else.

I think people are losing the plot about Halloween, they need to research the origins and what it actually means.

The main thing is she apologised for her actions, I hope for future reference her humour isn’t as funny as she think it is

The world is so pic focussed nowadays, no one can do anything without upsetting someone, especially with the internet do highly involved. Soon, people will be too scared to leave their homes in case they offend soneone. It’s ridiculous!

I don’t personally like this costume choice but I’m glad the mother took responsibility and apologised.

I don’t know that it’s racist, but it’s definitely insensitive.

To dress her son as a slave at Halloween at least shows that she sees the slavery as horror, what it was indeed. But this is not something to joke about and it would have been good if she had considered other people’s feelings. A poor choice indeed.

This is such poor taste! What would possess her to think this is even a little bit funny? She needs to take A long hard look at herself. ????

Good grief, either her common sense was on hiatus or shes a racist at heart. In all truth I think it’s the latter, no way in hell do you just mistakenly do something like this without realising the message you’re sending.

Aside from all the other issues how do you explain to a child about this costume.

  I had the same thought! So many questions about the motivation behind this costume.

My goodness I cannot believe this even occurred. I hope negative comments were constructive and taken in a place of reflection.

Why would a child want to dress like this? Why would any parent allow this as a costume? It really is inappropriate and insensitive.

Oh this is sooo wrong in so many ways.
