Police are investigating the death of a four-year-old girl who drowned in a bath at a Sydney home.

The girl was found unresponsive in the bath at the Bellerive Close property in West Hoxton about 6.15pm on Tuesday, reports 7 news.

Ambulance officers performed CPR before taking her to Liverpoool Hospital in a critical condition.

She died shortly afterwards.

UPDATE 2:30pm

A NSW Police spokesman on Wednesday told AAP the death is not suspicious and is being treated as a tragic accident.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner.

RIP little one.
