After two nights on the run, a 21-year old pregnant prison escapee has been recaptured in Perth.

Janaya Edith Williams was last seen on Wednesday morning at King Edward Memorial Hospital in the western suburb of Subiaco in Perth, before she evaded authorities.

Perth police arrested her in the Perth CBD last night.

She has been charged with escaping lawful custody and for giving false details to police.

Ms Williams is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.

  • Great she is back in jail. Not sure what crime she is in for but may be a threat to others so good they got her.

  • probably low security prison so very possible to just walk off BUT why would you bother when you will get into way more trouble.

  • Yes, It would be interesting to find out how she escaped. Maybe she forced a window if there is any in the toilet. If she only had a male officer guarding her there would be nobody to go in with her, but we don’t know if she was actually under guard when she arrived. She may have escaped from the gaol itself prior to going to hospitals. Some gaols actually have the babies with the Mums for a certain length of time (I don’t know what the cut-off time is) or until they wean their baby if sooner. They do in some gaols in SA

  • I hope this mum-to-be can understand the gravity of her situation. There’s not a lot of details in this story, but it must be a terrible ordeal to be pregnant and in custody.

    • There are no details – seems to be a news headline?

  • Hope the baby is ok.

  • While not approving, I wouldn’t want to be in jail while pregnant either.

  • Any details of how this person escaped authorities?

  • How is escaping going to help her or her unborn child? From her decision making skills so far, she certainly doesn’t seem ready to take responsibility for a child.

  • I didn’t know this case.
