IKEA is recalling a popular beach chair over fears it poses a serious safety risk to customers.

The MYSINGSÖ beach chair, which comes in a variety of patterns and colours, has been pulled from shelves both nationally and internationally.

The Swedish furniture giant says the recall is due to the “possibility of incorrect re-assembly after removing the fabric seat cover,” IKEA said in a statement.

“Incorrect re-assembly can lead to risk of falls or finger entrapment.”

Customers who have purchased the MYSINGSÖ beach chair before February 2017 have been urged to return it to any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase is not required.

  • Very wise decision to re-call them. I would be also frightened it would collapse or tip overwhen I was trying sit in it and stand up afterwards.

  • I’ve seen this happen with a similar product but many years ago, you can never be too careful!

    • I have had my fingers trapped in similar chairs from a completely different store years ago.
