Great sauce to have with steak, sausages even hot dogs

Ingredients (makes 1 cup)

  • 30g butter
  • 2 medium red onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1 tbs plain flour
  • 1 cup beef stock

Method

  1. Melt butter in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add onion and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until onion starts to caramelise
  2. Add flour. Cook, stirring, for 2 to 3 minutes. Gradually add stock. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 10 minutes or until slightly thickened. Season with pepper.

  • Best onion sauce I’ve made is roasted onions, in their skin, squeeze onion out. Blend with milk and seasoning. Add parsley. Delish with corned beef

  • Oh yum! We’re having sausages tonight and I’m going to make your onion sauce. It reminds me of onion gravy that my darling mum-in-law used to make so I know my husband will love it and so will I.
