The ACT Magistrates Court has heard that a Canberra father told his daughter he would slit her throat with a long knife if she told anyone about the incest and assault he committed against her.
According to the ABC, the 54-year-old man, from Macgregor in Canberra’s north is facing a total of 16 offences and was refused bail.
The court heard the offences against the girl began when she was 13, with some occurring as recently as the last school holidays.
The court also heard the man told the girl he would “slit her throat with a long knife” if she told anyone.
Allegations of abuse including rape were levelled at the accused man through a police statement of facts.
Court documents show that the girl told police she had unsuccessfully sought help from family members and her mother was scared of the man.
Magistrate Peter Dingwall said there were legitimate concerns surrounding the man interfering with evidence and attempting to get the girl to recant her evidence.
The man will be back in court next month.
