I do believe my husband and I are very lucky to own one of these toothbrushes, they are amazing and I don't think I would ever go back to a manual toothbrush after using one of these beauties. If and when I am going to get my children to have electric brush's and I think they clean better and are easier to use. I think they give our teeth that extra special sparkle.

I am very impressed about how clean my teeth are and it never ceases to amaze me with the quality it brings. Definitely my number one toothbrush and I know so many more that they would say that its their number one toothbrush as well!

Still using the Philips Sonicare FlexCare+ and still loving it! Our dentist says that the electronic toothbrushes are way better that the manual ones and is really happy that my husband and I are using them. So far I have recommended the Philips Sonicare FlexCare+ to about 8 people and about 5 of the 8 have bought this particular toothbrush and is loving the results. They say its well worth the money!

With my trial period over and just having a dental appointment, my dentist was happy with the cleanliness of the base of my teeth and the health of my gums, given the poor standard they were the last time I was there. So thank you to Mouth of Mums and the sponsors very much, not only have I enjoyed this trial but you have saved me some 'REAL' money in my future dentistry.

I never thought I'd feel this way about a tooth brush, I feel in love. As sad as that sounds I really like this toothbrush, I really gives my gums and teeth a good work out and leaves them feeling fresh, clean and more healthier. You can now see the difference in what it has done to my teeth and gums, a better outcome!

I know what to get my mother-in-law now for her birthday, I have been trialling this product for over a month and both my husband and I love it and we keep bragging about it to my parents who have now bought one and to my other family and friends. My husbands mum can't afford much and I think that this product would get its use out of it if we bought for her birthday and then too she can brag about it.

So this is my final review of the Phillips Sonicare Flex+ and I have to say it has beena pleasure trialling this product. I will not go back to a "manual" toothbrush and have already gone and bought replacement heads for when needed. I am also very happy to report I have my toothbrush on charge - the second time since starting this review , the first time being when we received the product. That is incredible - and considering it has been used 4 times a day that is a terrific charging capability. I am in love with my Phillips Sonicare Flex+ and I and my mouth/teeth thankyou MoM for giving us the chance to be a part of this amazing trial .

I still love using the Philips Sonicare FlexCare+ tooth brush. We went away for a couple of days and took the toothbrushes with us in the carrier. The battery lasted for the 2 nights and the carrier kept our toothbrushes clean and dry. The only thing so far I would improve, and it is merely my personal preference would be to offer toothbrush heads that offer different bristles. I always prefer strong stiff bristles while my wife prefers soft bristles. I did not notice the difference as first. But since using the toothbrush continuously for a few weeks, I find myself wanting harder bristles. However, I will not be going back to my manual toothbrush as I've noticed a cleaner feeling and look to my teeth with continued use.

When my wife first told me that we'd been chosen to review an electric toothbrush, I was curious. I already own an electric toothbrush which I am happy with, but agreed to give the review one a go.
After using it over the past weeks, I will admit that it does appear to do a good job of cleaning my teeth.
However it is overly complex, to the point of fault. There is no mode for just brushing your teeth - the designers have attempted to dictate the sequence that teeth should be brushed in the division of the brushing time into set periods, and I've been unable to conform to their proposed brushing sequence. Unfortunately, the way the periods are communicated (changes in the vibration pattern) mean that this is a constant irritation. I'd prefer a mode that just runs for however many minutes without any interruptions.
I doubt the purported benefits of the UV steriliser. The fact that the brush-heads are stored in a closed box will provide more net health benefit. I also disagree with the desire for total cleanliness - a bit of dirt is good for the immune system. I don't see the need for including the steriliser at all.
What has me most concerned though is the rate at which the brush head has worn. The marker bristles are nearly totally worn away, and we've only had the toothbrush a month. Genuine heads are priced at twice what I can get genuine heads for my toothbrush for, and appear to last less than a third as long. That means it will cost about six times as much to run just in replacement heads alone.

My final review! What can I say, except that I LOVE this toothbrush! I am SO happy that I was able to participate in this review, and there is NO way that I'm giving it up! It has made my mouth look and feel fantastic, and I must admit I've been enthusing about this brush to all my friends and family!

It's a competent toothbrush, but it's overly complicated, expensive to buy, expensive to run, and it seems as though the heads are wearing out much quicker than I'd anticipated. I was initially concerned that the UV Sanitiser was making the heads wear faster, but that didn't turn out to be the case. The heads simply do not have a long lifetime. Saying that, the brush does do a good job and gives a good, clean feeling.

I've been through the different settings on the toothbrush, and the sensitive and massage settings are genuinely useful, producing a different pattern of vibration. They aren't just different lengths on the timer. However, the cleaning modes seem to be overly complicated for my liking.
I'm also now getting used to the jarring from the back of the toothbrush head, and I'm not finding this as painful / irritating any more. I went back to my old electric toothbrush for one day, and although this is a comparison to an admittedly fairly worn brush head, I definitely didn't feel like my teeth were as clean after brushing with that one as they are after I brush with this toothbrush.
However, I'm highly disappointed to see that the wear indicator on the head is already half worn, after only two weeks. Looking at the prices of replacement heads, this looks like not only a very expensive toothbrush to buy, but also an expensive one to run.
Other than the wear indicator, the head doesn't look in bad condition, so I'm wondering if the UV steriliser is affecting the bristles. I might have to try not using it for a bit and see if the wear continues at the same rate.

So, I've been using the Sonicare FlexCare+ for almost 2 weeks now, and I am STILL loving it! The issue that I had regarding the sensitivity of my gums has gone now, as I suspected it would. I LOVE the Refresh setting, and the Gum Care setting is awesome if you want to have that little bit extra time to concentrate on your gums or on the tops of your teeth.
I haven't used the Massage setting yet, and I must admit that the Sensitive setting is not my cup of tea (it vibrates at a slower rate, and has been the only time I disliked what it was doing), but apart from that, it's brilliant!
My teeth look whiter and have less plaque than before, and my mouth feels like I've had my teeth professionally cleaned! The travel kit is fantastic, as I went away last weekend and utilised it. I must admit as well, that I had a couple of days where I wasn't cleaning my teeth, as I was very ill. Even after a day and a half without brushing, my mouth still felt cleaner than if I'd missed a single brushing using a manual brush.
All in all, I'm loving this toothbrush, and as I have seen it on special in The Shaver Shop, I would suggest you go out and get one yourself!

I already have an electric toothbrush, I'm used to it, and I like it. It's of the basic rotating head variety - cheap and fairly reliable. I can get a new charger, handle or brushes at any supermarket. Last time I checked, I could buy 8 complete kits for the RRP of the one we are testing out. So I'm approaching this with more than a little skepticism. Just what can be added to a toothbrush to justify an order of magnitude price hike?
My first experience with the new toothbrush was without reading the manual. (I mean, it's a toothbrush, how hard can this be?)
First impressions: It makes a high pitched whine when on, rather than the lower pitch more mechanical noise of my other toothbrush.
I can't hold the brush vertical and do the faces of individual teeth. With the big head, it's totally impractical. Even with the smaller head, it's still really intended to be used horizontally, not vertically. Vertical is no problem on the circular head on my other brush.
If the back of the head touches any other teeth, which it inevitably does several times per brushing session, that's really not a nice feeling - a lot of high frequency vibration straight into whichever tooth it was that got bumped.
The brush handle has a timer in it. This is good for the basic reason that you can't put it down and have it run until the battery is flat, but the designers have tried to be smart. Possibly too smart. This timer is apparently set up so it is the right length of time for you to brush your teeth, and it's broken down into four equal length periods, separated by a faster pulse. The pulse is supposed to be a reminder to change from inside to outside, or top to bottom.
Which means ... they've forgotten to allow time to brush the biting surfaces. I'm sorry guys, but I like to brush my teeth on all three accessible sides, not just on two of them.
Now, it does have selectable programs, and I will admit that I've not yet looked at them in any detail, so I'm not sure if this is a solvable problem. But on the default setting, it gives you the disconcerting feeling that the designer hasn't really seen more than a front-on picture of teeth before. I'm just ignoring the timer and brushing my teeth how I want to at the moment.
The HF vibration design looks like it'd be more resilient to the standard weakness of the rotation brush design - which is water getting inside the head and running down into the brush handle. I've learned how to avoid that being a problem with the rotating one, but it's good to see this one shouldn't suffer from it.
The charge indicator shows a connection has been made, as well as charge state. This is a nice touch - should avoid any doubt as to whether the handle has seated properly on the charger. The base also allows the handle to sit at any rotation.
The brush holder is apparently doing some kind of sterilisation thing via UV. I was instructed to put the head back in the storage box and push the button. I'm not sold on the benefits of this - as far as I'm concerned, it's a solution in search of a problem.
On the plus side, my teeth felt like they'd had a respectable clean, once they'd settled down from the mauling of the backside of the head. I'd say it's marginally better than my other toothbrush - I have to concentrate a little more carefully with that to get the same results. Unfortunately, at 8 times the price, marginally better cleaning with several annoying new issues doesn't cut it.
My opinion may change in future - I've only had a couple of days with it so far. But if we'd paid full RRP for it, I would be spectacularly unhappy at this point in time.

The FlexCare+ has a cleaning mode to suit my needs
I received my FlexCare+ yesterday, and have now used it twice, once last night before bed, and once this morning. Previously, I have been using a manual toothbrush, and thought that I was doing a good job. However, the difference in my mouth after only 2 uses is incredible! My mouth (teeth, gums, tongue and cheeks) all feel cleaner, and there is a noticeable difference in how my teeth *actually* look. If this is only after 2 uses, I can only imagine what my mouth will look and feel like after the month's trial is over!
We have used the UV Sanitiser as well, and will use it every night to try and keep the brush heads clean. I also think that the travel case and travel charger are brilliant ideas, and will be utilising them this weekend when I go away. This product has made me excited about cleaning my teeth every day!
The only 'negative' I have so far isn't really a negative - my mouth is unused to being brushed with an electric toothbrush, so my gums and palate tickle and tingle when I use it. However, I'm sure that after persistent use, this feeling will go away.

‘Trust Your Intuition’: How To Advocate For Your Child In Hospital
Mother’s instinct is a funny thing. At home, we trust it without question. But put us in a hospital setting with an unwell child, surrounded by doctors, nurses and monitors, and suddenly we start doubting ourselves.
What if I’m overreacting? What if I’ve got it wrong?
So we stay quiet, even when we know something just isn’t right with our child. I’ve been there myself – when my usually ‘tough’ son was doubled over with stomach pain. I was told in the emergency department that it probably wasn’t his appendix. But I knew he wouldn’t have begged me to take him to hospital unless it was serious. Because I know him better than anyone. Turns out, it was appendicitis.
It’s a really common place for parents to land. You’re grateful for the care your child is getting, but at the same time, you feel this huge responsibility to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.
Here’s the thing though: that instinct you’re feeling? It matters more than you might think.
Why your gut feeling matters more than you realise
According to Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital, Leticia Jackson, parents bring something to the hospital that no test or machine ever could.
“Parents often say they ‘just know’ when something isn’t quite right with their child, and in a hospital, that gut feeling is incredibly valuable,” she explains.
Leticia Jackson, Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital
While medical teams rely on observations, tests and equipment, parents know the little details. The way your child usually smiles. How they react when they’re tired. What’s normal for them.
So when something feels “off”, even if everything looks okay on paper, it can actually be an early warning sign.
“When parents trust those instincts and speak up, this creates a powerful partnership that can sometimes catch a problem before it becomes an emergency,” Leticia says.
Worried about speaking up? You’re not alone
A lot of parents hesitate about advocating for their child.
You don’t want to come across as difficult. You don’t want to question the people caring for your child. And sometimes, you just don’t feel confident enough to push the issue.
Leticia gets it.
“It is completely understandable for parents to feel hesitant,” she says. “No one wants to be seen as difficult or to second-guess the hardworking people caring for their child.”
But here’s a helpful way to look at it: you’re not challenging the medical team, you’re helping them.
Parents are the constant. Staff change shifts, care for multiple patients, and rely on snapshots of information. You’re there the whole time, noticing the subtle changes.
“Our medical team doesn’t view a concerned parent as overreactive, but as a partner,” Leticia explains. “Your voice matters.”
Remember, we know our children better than anyone.
What to do if you’re worried: the Raise It process
If you’re in a NSW public hospital or health service and you’re worried about you or your child’s condition getting worse, there is a clear process you can follow called Raise It.
Raise It is designed to help patients, carers and family members get help fast if they’re worried about a change in their loved one’s condition.
Here’s how it works:
Talk: Start by speaking to a nurse, midwife, doctor or health worker about your concerns.
Ask: Still worried? Ask to speak to the nurse or midwife in charge and request a Clinical Review.
Call: If you’re still concerned, you can escalate further using the Raise It process to get urgent attention from a senior health worker.
You don’t need medical knowledge. You don’t need to be certain. If you feel something isn’t right, or your child is getting worse, Raise It. You just need to speak up.
What should you actually look out for?
Sometimes it’s not one big, obvious sign. It can be small, subtle changes that just don’t sit right.
Things like:
Changes in breathing (fast, laboured or noisy)
Skin looking pale, mottled, or developing unusual rashes
Your child being unusually drowsy, floppy, or hard to wake
Confusion or behaviour that’s out of character
Pain that isn’t improving with treatment
Or simply that feeling that your child is getting worse
And sometimes, it’s just that gut feeling you can’t explain.
That’s enough.
“You are helping us, not bothering us”
If there’s one message Leticia wants parents to take away, it’s that you aren’t bothering the medical team, you’re helping them.
“In my years as a Nurse Unit Manager, I can say with absolute certainty that many critical changes in a child’s condition have been identified first by a parent. While our clinical staff are highly skilled at performing regular observations and interpreting data, parents are the only constant presence who truly know their child’s baseline behaviour, personality, and what is normal for them.
“I have seen numerous instances where a parent’s insistence that their child is “just not themselves” – despite vital signs appearing relatively stable – has prompted a deeper clinical review that uncovered everything from early signs of sepsis to a life-threatening respiratory crisis.”
The Raise It process exists because healthcare teams know how important parents are in keeping children safe.
“Speaking up doesn’t mean you don’t trust the team,” she says. “It means you’re partnering with us to make sure nothing gets missed.”
And if you’re still worried about being judged?
“Whether your concern turns out to be something or nothing, your instinct to raise it is always valid.”
You should never second guess yourself when it comes to yours or your childs health- or anyones for that matter. Go with your thoughts. It is natural to want to protect a loved one especially when it comes to health situations, and the feeling you get when you think you didnt do enough to advocate or fight for them…it is not a kind or nice way to feel. Many people have ended up being heartbroken and picking up pieces for years because of feeling they didnt do enough.
A very good and informative article. I have read so many stories about mums just knowing when things are not right and demanding second and third opinions until they got the right answer. Sometimes mums just know. It is our job as care takers of our families. Listen to your gut!
Years ago, I spoke up for my 14-year-old daughter, but my concerns weren’t fully listened to. I’ve always wished I had pushed harder. She was sent home without much testing, and two days later, she passed away.
So, if you ever have concerns—no matter how minor—please speak up and keep advocating. Trust your instincts; they are there for a reason.
This is so important for parents to know how to raise it further if they don’t think their child is receiving the medical support they need! I know this article refers to the NSW system but other systems have similar procedures just with different names. I know in QLD it’s called Ryan’s Rule.
It’s so important to follow your gut instincts and express your concerns indeed. I have never hesitated to advocate for my children in various situations and I don’t care what other people think about it. Not all doctors and medical staff appreciate it when you question them, I’ve experienced that it may result in angry indignant responses.
How true this is! While nurses and doctors are the medical professionals doing their job on the daily, we know our children better than anyone and what is ‘normal’ for them. I would always speak up if I had noticed any changes in my child’s health and encourage other parents to do so too. No question is silly!
This really is such an important issue and a good topic to discuss with people, I am often surprised that people are worried about being judged. This is not something I care about; the priority is for the care and health of everyone is my family. Parents know their children and need to work with health professionals for the best outcomes for their children.
This is such an important issue to raise, and no one should ever feel ashamed, nervous or that they are being OTT for advocating for their kids, themselves or loves ones in hospital. In QLD we have Ryan’s Rule. A three step process where your concern will be escalated if they believe the patients condition isn’t improving or is worsening.
I have never been afraid to advocate for my children and partner and extended family and also friends. It is so important to listen and to trust intuition. When people have not listened, I have persevered and kept on with insisting on care and making sure they truly listened and took action.
