Sound Scouts is the hearing test app designed to make testing hearing issues easy, by incorporating the science of a hearing test into a fun mobile game.

It’s important to know whether your child has hearing issues, and this is such an easy and accessible way to find out. Developed in collaboration with the National Acoustic Laboratories, the app is suitable for everyone, including adults and children aged 4 and up.

This week we’re looking for Sound Scouts reviewers to trial the app, so if this is something you’d like to try – apply today!

Sound Scouts hearing test app is downloadable to compatible Apple or Android and Microsoft touchscreen devices. Simply download the app, and take the test with suitable headphones.

It checks for three different types of hearing issues:

  • Middle & outer ear issues (conductive hearing loss)
  • Inner ear issues (sensorineural hearing loss)
  • Difficulties listening in noise (potentially caused by auditory processing issues, attention or language issues, or EALD).

Providing clinically reliable screening results for outer/middle ear and inner ear hearing loss and an indication of listening difficulties in noise. Once the test is complete, provided you are connected to the internet, results are immediately delivered on your device.

Recommended next steps are provided if a problem is detected.

  • Easy to use hearing test

    Thanks to mouths of mums for giving me and my four year old daughter the opportunity to trial this new hearing test app Sound Scouts.

    Unfortunately my daughter didn’t want to wear headphones, which are required to accurately test your hearing and determine any differences between ears. My daughter doesn’t usually use headphones so she was nervous about putting them on her head.

    She quite happily did the trial games and test without wearing headphones and found them quite enjoyable and easy to do.

    However we couldn’t get any further than that.

    I therefore ended up doing the hearing test on myself. And I apparently have hearing within a normal range for my age.

    I would say that this is a very easy and convenient way to test your child’s hearing from the comfort of your own home and can give you instant results It gives you peace of mind if you have any concerns about your child’s hearing ability.

  • When the Huh? Is a problem!

    Mr 5 has recently started stating he can’t hear, and responding huh and pardon to almost everything. Unsure if this was a genuine hearing concern, or just a busy boy not fully paying attention to his mum, this review came at a perfect time! With the sound scouts app fun and engaging, it was extremely easy for him to understand the tasks and the instant result (with a failed test!) meaning we could proceed to investigate the hearing concerns further. So grateful to this app for helping us realize our little guy might need some further support.

    It was an amazing, fun, engaging and easy using app that was very engaging for my son to use. He didn't want to stop! It was great to see him engaged in an educational setting and interesting to see his results immediately after completing the assessments.

  • Innovative App

    Love the whole concept of this app. An easy and safe way to first assess any hearing issues with yourself or your child before visiting the professionals.

    Sound Scouts have designed the test component of the app really well. It was easy for my 4 year old to understand and he enjoyed the activities.

    Only took around 15mins to complete and then I had his results. Good to know his hearing is fine and that he is just choosing to ignore me ????

  • A very innovative, resourceful tool

    Sounds scouts is an app, that provides you with the first tools to test hearing, which can be done in the comfort of your home.

    Whether there are concerns, wanting your little one to understand what a hearing test is or testing for peace of mind. To me Sound Scouts is a great, thoughtful stepping stone.

    From as soon as I opened the app, it gives you thorough information as the parent/ carer to understand what the process is and what is required.

    Siging up is an easy process and takes less than five minutes, if you're not tech savvy I would put aside 10 minutes for set up.

    I love that it was an interactive way for my daughters hearing to he tested with interesting games, the hot air balloon one she couldn't wait to start.

    I live that it had some personal touches that she could choose it it helped provide a sense of belonging. And the fact that I could instantly get the results, is very appreciated. By seeing it on the screen where she fits and also having it emailed to me.

    This is an app, I would gladly use again!

  • So easy and really helpful

    What a fantastic app and idea! I used Sound Scout on my 12 year old daughter and it was easy to set up and use (as her supervisor). She really enjoyed doing the games and it only took about 15 mins to complete the test. I received an email with the results and information promptly after completing and actually found out I have some hearing issues as well, so I’m off to get my hearing tested. This would never have happened if I hadn’t used Sound Scout.

    I was so glad I had a chance to try Sound Scouts! It's a fantastic app that made testing my daughter's hearing a fun and engaging experience.     This app was easy to download and then create a profile to start using it.

    The images were fun and bright for my little one.

    I think it is good to be able to have that peace of mind of something that is available to a parent at home which allows one to do a test such as this one.

    Love how kid friendly this app was - installing and utilising was a breeze.

    This was done in quiet setting, usually bedroom.

    Sound Scouts is a super kids friendly app that checks for hearing problems by turning the test into a fun game. It’s easy to use, affordable, and only takes about 15 minutes to get results. You just need a quiet place for it to work properly. You properly still see a specialist if something seems not right but this app is just perfect for a quick screening.

  • Not great

    Thus wasn't a great app. It didn't work well for us, I had high quality gaming headphones and we couldn't hear it. And couldn't get past the adult test page. My child also lost interest due to this.

  • Fun but not sure how reliable

    My 5 year old enjoyed the sound scouts app. We didn't get results to the helicopter test as he was getting a bit excited and tapping the button before there were any sounds. It was neat to see the results but I feel like only one test isn't a great indicator of their hearing. The novelty effect is still there and easy to alter results. I would love to try this on my younger son once he is old enough.

  • Great app for in-home hearing testing

    We were lucky enough to be offered a hearing test using the Sound Scouts app for our four year old son. The app is easy to find, download and install. Setup is relatively quick and easy. My son hasn't spent much time on the tablet and was eager to try the "games". He did struggle a fair bit with the first test so we will investigate these results further. We did find the rounds fairly long, especially round 1 and it took a few goes on two different days for him to get through. I suspect part of this was also his lack of experience on the tablet. The second and third rounds were more engaging and he passed both easily the first time. Overall a good experience and would recommend.

  • Great learning tool

    My son enjoyed trialling sound scouts hearing test app. He found it fun. I found it a bit of an effort to set up but after it was all set up it was easy to use. I would recommend to others I think it’s a great learning tool however I am not someone that purchases many apps so I couldn’t afford to purchase it in the future

  • Easy to use kids' hearing test app!

    I really enjoyed trialling this Sound Scouts Hearing Test app with my son! The app was easy to find on the Google Play Store, and to download to our Samsung tablet. Set up was fairly easy and straightforward, but I recommend an adult complete that section, as there are a few questions to go through. The test itself was quick and easy and I loved that I received instant results, which were then emailed to me for my records. My son found the actual hearing test easy to complete, but he thought that the graphics could have been more realistic, and he would have preferred an actual human voice for the commands rather than an AI voice. However, overall, we would both recommend this hearing app for kids as it's easy to use and is a great way to detect any issues with your child's hearing!

  • A useful tool for children

    My daughter was keen to get started. It was an easy to use app. I had never previously thought to check my daughter’s hearing so this was a convenient app to have and use. The report was comprehensive and it gives you an opportunity to follow up if needed. Would highly recommend the app.

  • Interactive and engaging way to check child’s hearing

    Interactive and engaging way to check child’s hearing. My step son completed this task and I was surprised that he was actually quite interested in doing so! It was easy to use and we made a fun little game out of it. I think this is a great way to ensure your child’s hearing is 100% and its ease of use makes such a difference! I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to test their child’s hearing.

  • Easy and engaging way to test hearing at home

    My daughter found this app simple and engaging to use. Whilst doing the supervisor test I was shocked to discover that my hearing may be impaired. At first I thought it was my headphones as I repeated the tests numerous times and scored very low. My husband however completed the test first go with the same headphones! While my daughter’s test was normal, I am booking myself in for a comprehensive hearing examination! Thanks to Scouts for detecting a possible problem.

  • Tried it before and it’s definitely one of the better companies to do surveys with. They make it so easy, the website is easy to navigate and the surveys are generally not too long. It’s easy to do whilst on the couch or filling in time! Definitely worth checking out to earn some extra cash.

  • Purkle is fun! Not a lot to earn from but if you like filling up surveys or voicing ypir opinions, it is definitely worth a try. Sometimes there are survey on music which are the most fun ones and also, these are the ones that reward the most. Not bad to earn a gift card or 2 in a year!

  • I love Purkle. While the surveys don’t award massive sums, the surveys themselves are never long. Other platforms want a minimum of 10 minutes which can be hard to commit to during day time chaos. It doesn’t take long to accumulate a decent sum, and I use gift cards as a way to treat myself. They can be redeemed for grocery gift cards. I’ve cashed out over $200 in a year and a half. Give it a go!

  • I’ve been with Purkle for a few years now. One of my favourite survey and money earning platforms. Easy to build up a balance and redeem your earnings. Love sitting down and completing my purkle surveys, to see balance grow. I use this to treat myself or put towards presents for Christmas

  • I’m not having any luck with purkle. I tried to sign up for it and it just wasn’t working so I emailed them and didn’t hear back, I just tried again now and managed to create an account but then the activation email contained no link to click and actually activate my account. From the comments here it looks like I’m not missing anything anyway

  • I’ve earnt a bit through Purkle and other survey sites. They are great passive income. I don’t mind that Purkle pays in gift cards as it provides a great opportunity for me to buy something for myself as opposed to putting cash away for expenses. But cash is always good!

  • Surveys have been great to keep me awake while feeding my newborn at night but I agree with some of the comments that the time commitment is too high for the benefit. I do not believe i will continue using it once baby starts to sleep through and get through feeds quicker.

  • I tried Purkle for approx 1 year and quite frankly it’s really not worth your time
    Very few surveys and very low amounts paid
    Worst thing is it only pays in gift cards so no cash
    I gave up and just stuck with my original survey site that I’ve been using for years
    It makes me $120 average in PayPal a week without too much effort and supplies the family with an annual holiday without touching the household budget

  • It’s a shame I’m already a member and can’t enter the competition. Surveys in general – including Purkle – can be a good way to earn some money, but just remember you won’t earn much from any one survey. It does add up over time though, and isn’t particularly difficult to do.

  • This is a nice way to earn a bit extra money but you won’t earn a lot. Some surveys time out too which is annoying or hey just stop working half way through. If you have spare time and want to do it then why not. I sometimes do these on the train on my way to work and it slowly builds up to allow you to get a reward. It all helps.

  • I joined Purkle ages ago but to be honest I have never used it and totally forgot that I joined let alone that I could be earning money and points while being at home. Any opportunity to make some money and try to help financially, off I go to rejoin I think!

  • I have joined up and hope to gain some bonuses. I realise it won’t be a lot but it’s good to know from genuine people on here that have been part of purkle that it is a real site. So many scams out there so good to know this isn’t one of them.

  • Purkle is a great surveys site. I’ve redeemed vouchers from there. You’re not going to make a fortune from it but you do definitely earn for your time. I haven’t done any for a while as I just haven’t had rhe time but I’ll definitely get back into it. The vouchers always come in handy.

  • The inner sceptic in me will prevent me signing up! I’m not against a survey, however I would rather do one here and there when I can with the incentive of winning something big! Even a $100 voucher. At the rate I win, it works out better than signing up for this.
