The Grinch is stealing Christmas from our kids by driving up the cost of this year’s must-have toys!

Just as scalpers do with concert tickets, these scammers use computer programs to buy up the most popular toys, then re-sell them at an inflated price on sites like eBay and Gumtree.

Reportedly this practise isn’t illegal but many Aussie parents are finding it to be VERY frustrating and expensive to find the popular toys on the kids Christmas list.

  • I know people who have bought things on Gumtree but only sold locally and they check them before buying them. I only have one toy to get but I have seen them in a genuine dept. store in the CBD. They don’t stock it in the metropolitan store but they don’t have a big range there anyway.

  • There’s always someone who wants to take advantage of anything they can.

  • Just don’t pay the inflated prices! Surely your child has more than one thing on their “wish list” – and that is what it is a “wish” list, not an “I get everything I want” list!

    • I love your point! It is a wish list and do not reward people that charge over inflated prices. Deny them a sale and they will go away.

  • I have seen some items for sale on sites and laughed at the prices – hopefully people have commonsense and do not buy the items.

  • Some people really need to get a life! I’m not up to fad toys yet so doesn’t affect me.

  • I believe in Karma and do hope it comes swiftly for these horrid people.

  • Not nice at all! Incredible that there are people doing this as a job!!
