A MALE teacher is behind bars after being charged over allegedly inappropriately touching four girls aged 11 and 12.

Simon William Phillips, 51, from Five Dock, was arrested by police at the front door of a Russell Lea home on Wednesday morning following a month-long investigation.

He didn’t appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday and didn’t apply for bail which was formally refused, reports News.com.au.

But Phillips’ lawyer indicated he would apply for bail on Thursday when the matter returns to court.

The teacher, who most recently worked at Mowbray Public School, is facing 13 aggravated indecent assault charges with all of the attacks allegedly taking place at a Lane Cove North school on different occasions in 2017.

One of his students was allegedly kissed on the forehead and touched inappropriately on several occasions within one month during school hours, according to police allegations contained in court documents.

Police allege the earliest assault occurred in January with the assaults continuing until October.

An education department spokesman on Wednesday told AAP the man arrested by police was not currently employed by the department.

  • Shame on you all

The teacher was found Not guilty. Judge found the girls and parents had colluded. There was not one witness who could say they saw anything. The girls fabricated their alleged assaults and pressured others to agree.

In this country the rule of law is innocent till proven guilty. Not one comment said this father deserved to be considered innocent. You all jumped in and damned an innocent man. I hope you never ever have to face the judgement from the ignorant mob.

  • This teacher – what crosses my mind is not polite. I feel for the pupils and hope they get the professional help they need. We forget that their parents may need help to come to try to come terms with this. The teacher probably knew there would be protestors outside the courthouse. He has also given the teaching profession into disrepute and should be charged for that too.
He will now have a criminal record and may never get another job of any type. Pity of it is we as taxpayers will be supporting him (and his family if he has one – how would they feel too)

  • Saw this on the news and glad he was caught.

  • How horrible. Poor girls should have been able to trust their teacher. Hope he never gets the opportunity to ruin another young life.

  • Hoping he will never be allowed to teach again! Disgraceful and disgusting! Thinking of the girls and their families at this time xx

  • Preying on the children because he thought he has some authority over them. Disgusting.

  • Hope his punishment will be heavy and he will loose his job as teacher for ever.
Thinking about the girls and their family, hope they receive all the support they need.

  • How dreadful. I hope the children involved have plenty of support.

  • The punishment due should not only be for the offence to the students involved but should also include punishment for the damage done to the trust of male teachers everywhere.

Students benefit from experiencing both male and female teachers for a wide range of reasons. It isn’t fair to the fantastic male teachers who continue to do so much good in our school communities either.

  • I feel for the poor girls,so wrong!

  • Hope the girls are given all the support they need.

  • A particular abuse if trust when it’s a teacher.

  • Oh, this is disgusting. I hope he won’t be allowed to teach anymore!
