A MALE teacher is behind bars after being charged over allegedly inappropriately touching four girls aged 11 and 12.
Simon William Phillips, 51, from Five Dock, was arrested by police at the front door of a Russell Lea home on Wednesday morning following a month-long investigation.
He didn’t appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday and didn’t apply for bail which was formally refused, reports News.com.au.
But Phillips’ lawyer indicated he would apply for bail on Thursday when the matter returns to court.
The teacher, who most recently worked at Mowbray Public School, is facing 13 aggravated indecent assault charges with all of the attacks allegedly taking place at a Lane Cove North school on different occasions in 2017.
One of his students was allegedly kissed on the forehead and touched inappropriately on several occasions within one month during school hours, according to police allegations contained in court documents.
Police allege the earliest assault occurred in January with the assaults continuing until October.
An education department spokesman on Wednesday told AAP the man arrested by police was not currently employed by the department.
