A schoolboy has managed to fight off a man who tried to drag him into a van in a terrifying attempted abduction.

About 8am, a 12-year-old boy was riding his scooter along Second Avenue  in Kingswood yesterday, when a vehicle, described as a dark-coloured “postal” style van, slowed down next to him near a church.

The man then got out of the van and grabbed the boy’s arm, attempting to pull him into the vehicle.

The boy fought and managed to break free of the man and ran to school where he reported the incident.

Police then attended the youngsters school and began to patrol the area but officers were unable to locate the man or the van.

An investigation is underway and police would like to speak with a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 183cm tall with a large build and dark-coloured shaved hair and a long dark-coloured beard.

  • So pleased the boy got away I hope the person has been found. All my kids have been taught to fight or scream

  • I taught my kids to fight and protect themselves, being a single mum raising 3 kids its hard, we all went to karate lessions, teaching my kids life skills and when to use them.

  • Scary how often this sort of thing happens.

  • Kingswood where? We have a Kingswood in Adelaide, and have had a quite a few attemped abductions in the last few months but I haven’t heard of any successful ones. It seems we need to walk in groups, especially school age as the smaller ones aren’t as big in size to tackle undesirables.

  • Luckily he could escape. I can imagine how scared he was!

  • This has been happening all too much lately. Seems to be becoming way more frequent

  • Lke mh

  • Hope the boys OK so scary
