Imagine giving a co-worker a baby shower gift worth almost $1000, and instead of being grateful, they were angry, because it wasn’t brand new.

It’s the exact scenario one woman found herself in, after she thought she did an amazingly good deed for her co-worker. But it all blew up in her face.

“My co-worker is having a baby in two months,” the woman explained on reddit. “She’s been gushing about the SNOO, bassinet especially after learning more about mine and watching my SNOO work on the nanny cam and how it rocks my baby back to sleep.

“She’s been telling people she really really wanted a SNOO but cannot afford the price tag – which is about US$1,500 for a brand new bassinet. I suggested she can either rent the SNOO or get one second handed on Facebook Marketplace for like between US$900-1100 (which is what I did). She said, it’s still too big of a price tag and not even sure if her baby would like it (some babies do not like the SNOO).”

The woman says her baby has almost outgrown their SNOO and would be finished with it by the time her co-worker has given birth. So she decided to gift her the pricey bassinet.

“So she hosted two baby showers – one at work, and one at home with family/friends. I thought about getting one of the cute onesies from her gift registry – but I also thought a better gift would be to give her our SNOO since we’re done with it. Even as a third hand user, the resale value on Facebook Marketplace would have been easily between US$ 600-900. When she opened my gift, it was a simple congrats card and I wrote on there, ‘We will give you our SNOO in a month’.”

The woman said the SNOO is in great condition with only minor wear and tear.

“Later I found out she was angry at me for throwing her my second/third handed bassinet when I no longer needed it and couldn’t even be decent enough to just buy a $15 onesie. Well, I got pissed, I told her, ‘Fine I’ll keep my SNOO, and sell it on Facebook Marketplace for US$600-900, just thought you would like it since you are always gushing about mine and how it’s too expensive to buy even a second handed one. There is no need to be ungrateful – here, just take $15 instead.’ I put $15 in her hand and walked off.

“Was I an a**hole for giving her a second handed product (in great condition) and calling her ungrateful?”

  • Wow! How un-grateful can one be. I had a $1500 Bugaboo, and had someone gifted me a secondhand one, I would have been beyond grateful!

  • Very ungrateful! I was so happy to just get anything new or used beause it all adds up and made my life easier

  • Very ungrateful. Seriously, I would be very grateful for such a generous gift – who cares that it’s second hand. I think it’s great that you stuck up for yourself.

  • Woah… that’s super ungrateful. Maybe the way she wrote I’ll give you mine in. a month wasn’t the right choice of words maybe. But still ungrateful. I’m glad she gave her $15 and walked off.

  • So ungrateful, considering she wanted one. Ild be stoked with it!!
    You handled it well

  • Sorry but what a ungrateful b***h.. new or second hand it’s the thought that counts and should she be so lucky to get a snoo!! Some people are unreal. I’m surprised with an attitude like that she has any friends at all.

  • I think its a personal choice… not everyone wants second hand for their baby especially with covid around

  • Snoos are pretty unsafe if they’re used the way they’ve been developed. But pretty bad to be ungrateful for receiving a gift.

  • I don’t think she was wrong. One of my friends gifted me her nappy bag, filled with the products she’d found useful to have in there. I didn’t care the bag was second hand – it was incredibly thoughtful and personal.

  • Wow, how ungrateful. But I guess some people just don’t like second hand gifts?!

  • No I don’t understand that reaction. It was a really thoughtful and practical gift

  • nope not at all. I think it was a very thoughtful gift seeing as though the lady kept saying that she wanted one.
