Melissa McCarthy has spoken out publicly declaring that she has not been asked to return to the series revival of Gilmore Girls.  The Academy Awards nominee actress played one of the favourite characters on the series, Sookie.

Sharing her disappointment about the situation, Melissa took to Twitter saying that neither she, nor the character Sookie, were invited “to come back to Stars Hollow.”

In contrast to Melissa’s claim, series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said Gilmore Girls character Sookie, is more than welcome to return for the sitcom’s four-part revival on Netflix.

TVLine reports that Amy said, “But the thing I have said [to her team] is, ‘Look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, I’ll write her a scene. Melissa was one of us.  If she has a spare moment to run over [to the set] — even if for just a cameo — we would be totally game. And if it’s a last-minute thing, I would write her in and we would figure it out. That’s the way we left it.”

She further assured fans that despite not having McCarthy slated to appear, the character’s absence will be explained.

Filming of the revival has just started and our fingers crossed they are able to sort this out.  Stars Hollow without Sookie just won’t be the same!

  • I didn’t watch Gilmore Girls but from the article it seems Melissa is telling the truth.

  • Which pretty much means she wasn’t invited in the first place.

  • Seems weird that they didn’t ask her in the first place but only left it open to her once they were questioned about it. I was never a huge Gilmore Girls watcher but to only write her “a scene” if she wants to be involved seems a bit of an afterthought.

  • She should be involved, what a shame.

  • I find this really STRANGE! Gilmore Girls would not be the same without Sookie and I don’t feel its because she is a big star now. Melissa is super wonderful in Mike & Molly but Lauren Graham (Lorelai) also has a popular TV series as well ..staring in Parenthood.
I feel this non asking is a MAJOR STUFF UP.

  • they probably assume that she is a big star now so wouldn’t bother with this show. It would be great for the fans to see her

  • I’ve never actually watched the show and didn’t realise Melissa was in it. I’m a fan of hers so wouldn’t mind watching the old ones, but if she’s not in the new ones I won’t be watching them.

  • Interesting that they would bring back a TV show with most except one key character. Maybe some underlying issues?

  • Sookie was part of the whole series if she isn’t in it then it ain’t Gilmore Girls any more

  • Lol, I don’t watch much television and never heard of or saw Gilmore Girls.

  • I must admit that I never really got into watching the show. I would see the odd episode here and there but that was about it. Perhaps the remake will work for me.

  • Maybe they thought of Melissa as a huge Hollywood star now and perhaps wouldn’t have the time in her schedule. I’ve never seen Gilmore Girls (shock! horror!) It’s one of those DVD series I was always going to watch. This has revived my interest in it though.

  • Sounds like some politicking here, isn’t it? Or it could be some brilliant marketing thingi to draw attention from the public. I’m sure the truth will come out one day.
