The sonogram shows baby Mason on the left, with his tiny hand wrapped around the finger of his growing twin sister Madilyn.

Because Mason may never get to know his twin or family, this special moment showing siblings bonding before birth, is something these parents say is no coincidence.

“Most twins when she’s trying to take pictures and stuff they’re kicking each other and hitting each other and she said with our twins it seems like she was very protective over him,” Mum, Brittani McIntire said.

Baby Mason has a hole in his heart and an abnormal brain, and wasn’t growing like he should.

“He’s only weighing 255 grams and his sister is over 900 grams,” Brittani said. “His only chance of survival would be heart surgery but they wouldn’t do heart surgery because of his brain.”

“We know we have a piece of them together that will last forever … and it’s special to have,” the father said.

“It’s just nice with everything going on … I know I’m holding him, I’m carrying him but I just want to be there for him,” Brittani said. “She’s the only one who can actually be there and is holding onto him … so it’s comforting to know that if he does pass, he won’t be alone.”

  • The video won’t work for me. But it must be so sad knowing he most likely won’t live. It’s so beautiful his sister is holding his hand, how special x

  • What a mixed bag of emotions for this family.

  • It is so tragic that the Mum is carrying one baby that they as parents know may not even breathe. It is a beautiful image they will treasure forever. Obviously babies don’t normally hold hands or make other gentle contact. They are normally moving around trying to find space for themselves. I wish the parents all the best and hope Mum doesn’t go into premature labour to give the healthy baby a good start in life.

  • Such a sad story – they are being so brave and strong during this difficult time. I thought the older siblings said beautiful things about the unborn twins. I wish this family all the best, no matter what happens.
