Hello!

How is your Discovery Garden growing? Well, you can add some sunshine to your collection this weekend with the special limited edition Sunflower Seed pot, which will add some light into the lives of our drought-ridden farmers.

Woolworths has announced that they will be releasing this extremely limited edition Sunflower seedling as part of their Discovery Garden series.

The sunflower seed kit will be available in-store at Woolworths this weekend only for $2. There will be a limit of three kits per customer.

Sow The Seeds Of Help

The supermarket has said that it will match every dollar raised from the sale of the kits and donate the proceeds to S.T.A.N.D. (Support Through Australian Natural Disasters) Drought Action Appeal — which supports The Salvation Army, Rural Aid, Foodbank and Lifeline.

These charities directly support farmers with financial aid, stock feed supplies and counselling.

Woolworths Managing Director, Claire Peters said the charities “play a vital role in helping alleviate the pressure of the drought, not only at the farm gate but across the wider communities in which those farms operate.”

It’s Dry Out There!

Rural Aid CEO Charles Alder said drought conditions have worsened by as much as 40 per cent in the past 12 months, as reported in news.com.au.

He said Rural Aid now fields “50 to 60 calls a week from farmers wanting drinking water for the family — that’s a growing part of our supply”.

The seeds in the kit have been sourced from farmers from across NSW.

There isn’t an extra spot in the Discovery Garden collection tray for the sunflower but we still think it’s definitely worth buying the additional pot to help the farmers.
