Sydney mayor delivers baby “We’ll never have a night like that again!"

Leichhardt mayor Darcy Byrne delivered his baby girl at home while waiting for paramedics.

Councillor Byrne took to Facebook on Wednesday to share his exciting news…

“You won’t believe this. Last night my wife Rae went into labour so quickly that we didn’t have to time to get to the hospital. The delivery ward advised me to call an ambulance and while I was doing that, the baby started making her way out,” Mr Byrne wrote.

“I had to stay on the phone to the Ambulance operator who talked us through what to do. A few minutes later our daughter was born and then these wonderful Ambos arrived and took us all to hospital.

“Unbelievably, Sinead (new big sister) slept through the whole thing, in the next room.
“Gina, our lovely neighbour who came over to look after Sinead, ended up being witness to a birth (she looked like she needed a stiff drink afterwards).

“Mum and baby are doing well now. I’m very proud of them. What an effort from Rae!

“If we live a thousand years, we’ll never have a night like that again.”

Certainly a different “special” night. One that they will never forget. Congratulations to all of them.
Big sister has already examined little sister. So cute!!!
The Paramedics look very relieved that all went well.

What a tale to tell. I’ve always been terrified of child birth but hearing stories like this makes it all sound so easy

Hubby thought he was going to have to pull over and deliver out youngest in the car. I told him to keep driving and I would hold on.
Congratulations Mayor. That would have been harder than any day on the office

An amazing story! We had one child born in the car on the way to hospital. Hubby pulled up at the servo on the highway a couple hundred metres along the road and waited for the ambulance, so bub was an hour old before we got to the hospital.
