Teacher charged with possessing child pornography - Mouths of Mums

A high school teacher has been charged with possessing child pornography.

The male teacher, who cannot be named, was working as a physical education teacher until last month at Churchlands Senior High School in Perth, reports 7 news.

The school has confirmed the 61-year-old was cleared to work with children, as a holder of a Working With Children’s Check.

In a letter issued on Wednesday, the Churchlands principal said the man’s criminal record was also checked before the employment commenced.

Police began investigating the man last month when allegations were made about the man taking inappropriate photos of girls.

Officers searched the 61-year-old’s Scarborough house and seized a computer and storage devices allegedly containing thousands of child exploitation images.

Police have confirmed the allegations do not relate to Churchlands High School students.

Until a person has already been charged with an offense they have no record and are automatically given a Police Clearance Certificate.

Sadly the internet has enabled these despicable people by giving them much easier access. It is time that the punishments were more severe as more effective deterrents are needed.

This is truly troublesome, how someone nibs of us would want around our children, manages to get around all the security checks and still be able to teach our kids. Really gut churning

Unfortunately the WWC checks only show issues if there has been past behaviour that has been caught.

It is a relief when these types are caught and charged and hopefully sentenced.
