Teachers are sharing the worst school lunches they have seen including a cold maccas happy meal and a red bull drink with corn chips.

Teachers have revealed that a child once turned up to school with a day-old McDonald’s Happy Meal that had a cold burger and fries inside.

“Shame for it to go to waste,” the kid said to the teacher explaining his ‘Gran’ had bought it for him the day before but he didn’t want it at the time.

Too Tired

In another instance, a student came to school with simply a packet of ginger biscuits as that was all they could find in the pantry after saying their mum had simply been “too tired” to go shopping.

Another teacher shared how one parent gave their kid a can of Red Bull and a packet of corn snacks after, “He’d had a late night on his Xbox and seemed like he needed a pick-me-up.”

Another example, a primary school pupil had turned up with only a pork pie and a can of shandy for lunch.

It was also revealed that an eight-year-old once came to school with a can of Dark Fruit Cider, unaware that it contained alcohol.

The worst lunches

A teacher told of the time one student had arrived with no packed lunch or any money for food.

The teacher then asked if he had had any breakfast, to which he said he had cereal with water as “Mum needed the milk for her coffee”.

“I’m not ashamed to say I cried when he told me that,” the teacher said when she posted about this experience.

Sadly this happens all too often.

What is your guilty lunchbox treat?

  • Hopefully those schools have some good systems in place where they can provide those kids with a healthy meal – and some sort of education for the parents.

  • This is sad. Some parents could do with some financial support, other need some education about a healthy diet and nutrition.

    • I agree – the burger was sent because of not wanting to waste it. Good food hygiene needs to be taught too and the risks associated with food.

  • If this happens more than once it is obvious there is a problem and the family needs help. I’m sure some parents would be embarrassed but hopefully they would accept help.
Some children may take what may appear to be rubbish to school. Ask the child if he/she is on a special diet / not allowed to eat some foods. I know of a Mum who got a note about the lunch she had sent with her son. She gave him muffins. Gluten Free with grated vegetables in them. Many of those who are on the diet do not like the bread they are allowed to eat.

  • Some parents/caregiver do need to learn what is a good lunch. It does not take much to put something together. Maybe some lunch classes or a chart showing what is needed.

  • Has anyone considered that these mums and dads might need some help? If you’re sending your kid off with a pack of ginger bickies because you were too tired to shop and thats all thats in the pantry, then thats a cry for help. Get that mum some help!
