Brisbane toddler rescued after being trapped in the bath tub for seven hours.

9 News reporter Alex Bernhardt says, a curious toddler was left trapped in a bathtub for seven hours when her hand became stuck in the drain.

Firefighters had to drill through a neighbouring apartment to remove the bath and free her.

The 15 month old’s mum tried everything she could think of to free it herself, but had no luck. She realised she had to call emergency services.

They had to remove the bath – with bub and dad inside – to help free little Olivia.  The ordeal took seven hours which was too much for Olivia, who slept through it all while daddy was holding her.

Dad Tim warns other parents “If there is anything you can put in the plug to prevent this happening, I suggest you go buy it!”

What a scary ordeal! So glad she was OK.

  • The newer ones have a solid fitting with small holes in them to drain the water out. I suspect a little one might be able to get their fingers stuck in it though.
Hopefully she will be stopped from going down that end of the bath in future.
Let this be a warning to all parents/guardians/carers etc.

  • How scary for the family – and what about being the neighbour? Never heard of having to enter a neighbours property to remove a bath before. Hope the little girl is ok.

  • At least it was a relatively safe environment to be stuck in. Not that I’d want my kids to try it.
