A three-year-old boy has escaped unharmed after he climbed into a soft-toy vending machine in Sydney’s northwest.

Fire and Rescue NSW says crews were called to rescue a young toddler after his mother spotted him inside the machine at the Australian Hotel and Brewery in Rouse Hill on Tuesday afternoon, reports 9 news.

Firefighters had to break open the door before the boy was pulled out during the twenty-minute rescue, a spokesman told AAP on Wednesday.

Nawww poor little man. That sure was an adventure for him.

Has your child done anything similar?

  • lol they could redesign them so that the door is up higher and the kids couldn’t climb in. supervision though :)

  • I have seen some being re-filled – via a small door they had to unlock. They actually had 2 locks on them. Apart from the frame of the machines they were solid glass – not thin glass either. The opening that let the toys out was barely large enough to allow the toy to slide out. I suppose a impatient child might get his/her arm trapped but definitely climb into it. Maybe we now need laws for the construction of them because children are allowed to be at them unattended.

  • Nope, my kids never did anything like this, they were supervised. The worst that happened to us was my daughter hiding in the clothes racks one time, freaked us right out

  • How did he get in there is a better question. What was the mother doing. My kids are NEVER out of my sight.

  • Goodness – how scary for the poor little one and the mum.

  • it should be a requirement that a key be left with the centre management for just such an emergency

  • I didn’t realise it was so easy for a child to get into a vending machine. I think they need to review the safety aspects of these.

    • I agree – surely there needs to be better safety on these machines.

  • I’d love to know how many of the kids that get stuck in these machines had their dads egging them on in the first place.
