Do you need more time in a day? I do, I never seem to get to the end of my list!
There is always a lot to do but I don’t let the list get in the way of my what is important or get me down because I know I’m trying and I’m getting as much into the day as I possibly can.
Here are my top 5 ways to get more time into your day:
Plan and schedule. It can be hard to work around kids but if you have a plan and a bit of a schedule you’ll be amazed what you can actually get done. Planning will make it easier at the time to know exactly what has to be done and not waste time pondering it all.
Do the quick stuff quickly. Don’t think about that washing on the line that needs to come it just go grab it. A scoot around the living room takes no time at all you don’t have to think about that just do it.
See an opportunity. Kids napping? Time to get on to that list. Are they happy watching TV for a few minutes? Great go unload the dishwasher in peace. Some days there may not be a lot or anytime, but when there is use it.
Delegate. Yes. Get the kids to help you. Show the kids how to make beds, straighten the cushions on the lounge, unload the dishwasher or even fold some clothes as you take them off the line. OK the beds in our house are rarely even presentable but they’ll get there. Have them helping will eventually give you more time.
Be realistic. If you know you are not going to be able to scrub all the walls in the house in two hours then why put that pressure on yourself? Do a section a day or aim for three walls and if you get them all done great if you don’t then just add them to another day. Make the goals achievable.
Don’t forget to praise yourself when you do get through some of those things. Being a mum can mean days of high achievement and days where the fact you got dressed was an achievement. That’s just the way it is with kids and life so be kind to yourself and pat yourself on the back for anything you did get done today.
