Twins Born Just Minutes Apart, But In Different Years

Aylin and Alfredo are among the rarest twins in the world. The adorable pair were born only minutes apart, but on different days, in different months and in different years.

Alfredo Antonio Trujillo entered the world on December 31, 2021 at 11.45pm, and he was followed 15 minutes later by his little sister Aylin Yolanda Trujillo who was born bang on the stroke of midnight on January 1, 2022.

The Californian twins were born at Natividad Medical Center with Aylin weighing 5 pounds, 14 ounces, and big brother Alfredo weighing 6 pounds, 1 ounce. According to the hospital, there are around 120,000 twins born in the USA each year, making up just 3% of all births. But the chances of twins having different birthdays is somewhere around a one in two million chance.

“It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” their mum Fatima Madrigal said. “I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”

The fraternal twins have three older siblings, two girls and a boy. Fatima said her oldest son was excited that one of the babies was a boy and that her family couldn’t wait to meet them.

“This was definitely one of the most memorable deliveries of my career,” said Dr. Ana Abril Arias. “It was an absolute pleasure to help these little ones arrive here safely in 2021 and 2022. What an amazing way to start the New Year!”

I actually LOVE this. It’s so unique and as they grow older I think will really help their sense of identity to be just that little bit different from each other, plus, it’s really is a great story ????

So cute! My mum and I were born on the same day and month, and celebrated our birthday’s together. As a teen, it annoyed me, as I preferred to have the day to myself. Saying that, seeing as they are twins and will share most things, at least they’d have two different birthdays.

These beautiful children will never forgive her. When they go to start school one twin will be allowed in and the other not as she is a year younger. When they race each other in athletics or swimming then they will be put into different years. The final effect will be that the younger girl will always be left out and may very well need help to get her through her life for no fault of her own. That said – I do wish them all th best of luck as they go through their lifestyle
