All Woolworths did was follow the customer’s instructions to the tee, but the result was an epic cake fail that had us all in giggles.

A Woolies shopper ordered a custom-designed cake from the supermarket and her directions were simply to leave the top of the cake blank. She certainly didn’t expect the baker to actually do exactly what she asked.

When Amy collected the cake from her local store in Mayfield, NSW, she discovered that it had the words “Leave blank” written on the top of the cake, as reported on 7News.

The amused customer shared a photo of the cake to facebook saying:

“This is not a joke. This is the cake we collected from Mayfield Woolworths this morning for a work event today. Thank you for the laughs. Everyone thought it was hilarious! And it tasted delicious.”

Lots of laughs and funny comments followed. Even Woolworths saw the funny side of the situation remarking:

“WOW Amy! We’ve got no words – you’ve left US blank! When our bakers say they’ll follow all instructions, they literally follow all instructions.”

“We’re glad our Mayfield team could provide you with a little giggle today, and we’ll be sure to let them know. Also, we totally agree – this looks absolutely delicious!”

It Was All A Set Up?

However, there are rumblings that this was actually one big (but funny) set-up. There are claims that the Woolies baker who took the order actually double checked that this was what Amy wanted written on the cake.

One comment read: “I was there when they phoned in the order, she even asked what was the reason they wanted this written on the cake and they said because it’s funny.”

Amy said that she certainly wasn’t aware of any set-up but admitted that either way it didn’t matter.

She added: “Even if was a setup, it’s still pretty funny – thanks to Woollies for going along with the joke.”
