Australian model and actress Erin McNaught and her music producer partner Stace Cadet have revealed their seven-month-old son has been diagnosed with a large brain tumour.

The couple shared the shattering news on social media, explaining that their baby boy Obi’s recent behaviour had prompted them to seek medical advice.

“For the last few weeks we have noticed a rapid decline in Obi’s behaviour and happiness,” they explained.

“He was having problems eating, sleeping and most recently, keeping his head straight. Late on Tuesday, as a precaution we took our little man in for an MRI under instruction from our Doctor.

“At about 6:00pm Tuesday night we met with a neurosurgeon who broke the heartbreaking news that Obi has a large brain tumour on the right side of his brain.

“We are absolutely shattered and the last few days have been our hardest days. Our team at the Queensland Children’s Hospital have been incredible and we remain hopeful that we can remove the mass and get Obi healthy and happy, pending the results.

“We have a long and difficult road ahead us but are so lucky to have our family and friends’ support at this time and we’re keeping focussed on getting our little boy back.”

The 43-year-old mum, who also has two children with her ex-husband, rapper Example, recently described Obi as an ‘absolute joy’.

We’re thinking of this beautiful family and sending our love.

  • It’s difficult at any time to find out your child has a tumour but in a baby it’s very scary indeed. I hope they are able to remove it and he has no lasting side effects from it. This would be very upsetting and I wish you all the best for your lovely boy.

  • This is really awful – and no doubt terrifying for the family. What a difficult thing to go through, especially with a young baby who won’t be able to understand anything. I do wish them both good luck and strength, and hope that they have people they can lean on at this time.

  • This is so devastating for the family, I really feel for them. Looking at the photo of the scan that tumour looks very big. I hope the QLD hospital is able to remove that little boys tumour and he is then able to live his life and hopefully be healthy. My heart goes out to them.

  • That is absolutely horrible news and obviously the worst possible outcome for any parent seeking medical advice. I cannot even imagine the fear that they are experiencing now. I hope little Obi is not in too much pain and that they can manage to have a successful operation without any complications.

  • This is such tragic news for someone so little. I send all the best wishes that little Obi will make a full recovery and be back to his normal little self real soon. To Erin and Stace, remember to take care of yourselves as well during this very stressful time.

  • That poor baby boy. It’s so strange how a brand new life just develops something so nasty. I hope they’re able to help him.

  • What a shock for the family. I knew she had two other children but didn’t realise she had a baby as well. Poor thing is so young too.
Let’s hope the amazing medical team can treat poor baby Obi and he make for a steady recovery over the next few months.

  • Oh my goodness, what a terribly sad thing for this family to go through. Babies so tiny shouldn’t have to deal with this, it’s not fair. I’ll be wishing the absolute best for little Obi. And wishing strength to his parents. Thank goodness they noticed the changes to his behavior and sought out medical attention
